Thanked: 953I think you should do scales with some dead flys. Nice 8/8s meatchopper with some dead fly scales - now that's manly. Then slobber on some tabac - extra manly - and the scent will kill any of the flies that didn't die when they were laminated. Then slap on some aqua velva, and shower with some old spice body wash. All MAN!

Thanked: 2209Looking very good! I had been thinking about layering some rose petals or other small flower petals earlier this summer.
Is the blade a DA or a Gold Dollar?Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

Thanked: 402Its wonderful, Seraphim!
Do you think the alu backing is absolutely needed for stability or would the resin be enough?

I tried that (they would have been my Trumper's Rose scales...) but the petals turned purple, and did not look nice at all.
This blade is a Gold Dollar. They are the same razor as the Double Arrow. My suspicion is that Double Arrow was simply an export middleman, not a different manufacturer.
An update on the fern scales: They have delaminated a bit from some of the ferns, so I need to modify my lamination technique...
Olivia: I don't think the aluminum is necessary, but I like the look and the stability it imparts to the scales.

Thanked: 402oh, then they will morph a little, I'm afraid.
Flat dried leaves or petals are a must with resin.
Putting them into books works fine (still).
