I bought the smallest vice I could at Lowe's to use as a bench vice then polished one end of it to use as and anvil. Picked it up local so there was not shipping on a heavy item and it only cost like $20, I get tons of uses out of this one portable cheap part...

I obviously need to re-polish it again but it's actually cleaner than this picture shows.
EDIT: And I never have to polish my pins using this set up with a polished peening hammer.

I got a little jewellers anvil from amazon which works great. It was pretty cheap too and came with a decent polish on it.

Hi,
I got a small model makers anvil (HA0035) from Squires here in the UK - cost about thirteen (13) GBP (ca 21 USD).
The miniature doming hammer (HA00009) is very nice as well
