My first full restore
Hello all.
Here are a couple of pics of my first full restoration. I don't know much about the actual blade sorry. I came across it in a local antique store and the engraving on the blade really appealled to me.
The scales were busted so I made these new ones from acrylic. I couldn't find any sand paper finer than 1200 but I decided that I actually quite look the "Saturn" look anyway.
I tried peening but found that I wasn't happy with the end result so I brought some Micro Fasteners online.
There is some deep pitting on the blade that after getting some advice from here I decided not to sand too hard on. I didn't want to break it after putting so many hours hand sanding into it.
I'm not 100% happy with how it turned out but I'll live. I found getting the sanding even on both scales quite difficult. Hopefully my bad photos will hide some of that
After taking the pics I notieced the dust so If you're wondering what the spotting stuff is that it.

Thanked: 993Looks great! That's a job well done...for sure.
Your scales and wedge look very nice. I like the microfasteners too. For my rotation I pin my toe, and bolt the pivots.
Nice work.

Excellent job! The hardware extends a bit. I wonder if you ground, sanded, polished, them down? The workmanship on the scales is awesome! Before photos are always good. I am guilty too! It seems we get started before we take em! Nice job! Wish I could do that!

Looks lovely, you should be proud.
The etching looks so nice and deep, I feel it's a nice compromise leaving the pitting. The etching would not have been as dramatic otherwise.
Scales look nice, with a great finish where it meets the wedge. I hope you enjoyed this, cause look forward to see your next projects. I imagine will admire your progress as your play with tapering your wedge and pinning skills evolve.
IMO taking pictures is about the hardest part of the hobby, lol

Thanks so much for your kind words everyone. I'll make the effort to do before shots next time. I have another lined up but it won't be a full restore.
I think I'm going to miss this razor. I gave it to a good mate as a going away gift this evening. I didn't even get the chance to shave with it
Anyway, thanks again
