My First Complete Restoration....
Ok, this is my first complete restoration on a razor. The razor is a 6/8 Greaves & Sons 1/4 hollow wedge. It had some decoration on the face of the blade, but the blade was covered in patina, rust and pits and the back side was much much worse. I took the razor apart and started hand-sanding the blade. After what seemed like 2 weeks, but was probably closer to about 15 hours, I sanded my way from 220 up to 1500 grit on the blade and got all but one tiny little pit out. I then made scales out of some blue G10 and used black G10 for the wedge. Scales were sanded from 220 up to 1500 and finished with Black, then White buffing compound. Pins are nickel silver rods and stainless washers. I used a 2 pin design on the wedge end since it was my first time and wanted to make sure the wedge was fully secured. I learned a lot working on this razor. I have such a complete respect for the guys out there that do this often, and I can't wait to get my hands on another to practice some of the little tips and tricks I've learned on this one. I'd also like to say thank you to everyone who's posted hints and tips for working razors, I've read so many threads on here that have helped more than words can describe. Any advice, criticism or any thoughts you'd like to ad, please let me know. I also need some major work on my camera skills, but I guess that will come with time.

I'd say you did a fantastic job. You have brought that old blade back to life, time well spent on the sandpaper. The scales look great, very tidy work. You should be proud.

Thanked: 993Busting out balance pics already! Nice work...I like the G10, and the wedge is well fitted and definitely secure. I'd say that this was a complete success.

AWESOME WORK! I realy like how you managed to get the kind of glow out of the G10. Have you honed it up shaved with it yet? You should be very proud of this razor since its your first, did alot better then my first restore. Take care!

Thanks for all the comments guys, as far as honing and shaving, I had a little trouble to start with, I think it's got the typical Old Sheffield warp, but I did some rolling x strokes mixed in with a few others. Set the bevel on a King 1k, then worked up through a Norton 4/8 and finished on dovo red, then dovo black then with some Cromium Oxide on a bench strop. Haven't had a chance to shave with it, but it looks like it's going to be good. I'll give an update after I've had my first shave with it.

Very nice work! I know what you mean about weeks on the sanding. But, hand sanding it all out is worth it. Beautiful!
