Default Complete Original W&B in Horn

One of the guys I work with brought me his grandfather's blade to refinish for him. He had some very specific requests. Keep the scales, bug holes and all, polish the blade, but leave it a little rough to "tell the story." He has been tickled pink with the progress, even sitting with me for 2 hours during hand sanding one night. His grandfather was BORN ~1900, so this blade was quite old by the time he started shaving. It may or may not have been passed down from his great-grandfather. I'm going to surprise him by getting it honed for him and then shaving him. He is going to love the connection with the past.

Pins are 1/16" brass rod with stacked brass on brass washers. I was sweating bullets during the unpin because this was the first time I'd ever wanted to keep the scales on a razor.

In the second finished picture, the blade isn't discoloured, it's the sidewalk reflecting.

That does look much better. I'm not surprised that you were sweating buckets during that unpinned. Nice job on getting through this one.

Man that is really sweet. Great idea giving him the connection to the past. You might even convert him.

I asked him if he would rather just have me make a new set of scales in black horn in the same pattern as the originals, but he was adamant that I keep the original scales, even down to the bug holes. I think it looks cool, and will be a nice reminder of his grandfather. I'd like to make him a small display box, but I don't know if I'll get it done.
