thats for wood that is figured such as bubinga etc. a burl is just a growth in the wood. regular amboyna smells the same also! all wood has it's own smell when sanded. love it!!

Just skip smelling the spalted stuff, I guess.

Sweet looking razor! I started an ebony project recently and really like the look and feel of ebony. Too bad the material is so expensive or I'd try ebony on a few more razors. :-) Again, great work.

Try bell forest products. they have scales at just the right size for us and at a good price. Here
use the 1/4x1 1/2x9

Thanks for the link. They seem to have a large selection and prices seem decent too. For example, it looks like a 1.5" X 1.5" X 6" piece of African blackwood is $8.50. That should be enough material for 2?? full sets of scales if your precise with the table saw. I noticed that they also sell thin stock that might be easier to work with. For example, a 1/8" X 3" X 24" piece of gaboon ebony is $30. Expensive, yes, but that should easily be enough material for 4 full sets of scales. I will call them to see if they might be able to produce the blackwood in thin stock which would presumably be less expensive than the gaboon. Thanks again for the link.

lol You should get 4-6 sets of scales from that ( 1.5" X 1.5" X 6") I actually like the 1/4 inch stock as I can start a bit thicker and sand flat. not all pieces are flat when you get them with the rough cut edges.
