Palmera 14 in Ebony and Walnut
Juan Vollmer Palmera 14
Scales in Gaboon Ebony with Black Walnet insets and wedge.
Nickle pins with stainless steel washers.
Tru-Oil finish.
All surfaces of the blade were brought to a clean mirror finish with the exception of the maker's mark area of the tang - I wanted to preserve what little of the Juan Vollmer logo was still present when I acquired the razor (very faint traces of the palm tree and Juan Vollmer name are still visible).
The original metal inlay was applied on the new scales with epoxy. Then the scales were finished with approximately 12 applications of Tru-Oil (to provide both depth to the finish as well as bring the surface a bit closer to being flush with the 'inlay').
Final touch was a bit of Renaissance Wax applied to both the scales and the blade to help prevent finger prints.

Beautiful razor!! Like the way you handled the inlay. I had problems with one that wasn't finished into the scale. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Thanked: 2027Small world.I did the same last night, same blade.
I experimented first with epoxy, found it to thick to apply in light coats (on the round pce)
My wife had some real hot, watery CA she uses on her jewelry work, brushed 3 coats on the inlay, sanding in between, you can barley feel the inlay when finished.

Thanked: 1263Very nice work. Like the overall shape of those scales and the pinless wedge end looks great.

Fantastic work Malacoda. Very nice indeed. The scale shape is really interesting, and the finishes on both scales and blade are superb.

Thanked: 993Hope it's ok if I chime in too...
I've had the pleasure of honing a few of them....and I love the shaves from them. They've all been 8/8's (which is also one of my favourite sizes), and take great edges. I hope I get to A) hone some more B) get to buy one at some point!
