    Default Bengall in Giraffe Bone

At the last Houston meet one of our members picked up a naked blade Bengall. I put it in Giraffe bone dress with red G10 wedge. when I first saw it I thought "no problem"..... After I got the scales done I really started looking at the blade and found a bunch of micro chips and pits all over it. Well out came the 600 greaseless and up the progression I went. Still has a few spots but I didn't want to get to crazy and thin it down to much. I has a funky toe but if I evened things out it would have ended up around 3/8-4/8. Had to massage to shoulder a smidge also. Ran it up the Norton 1/4/8K then 12K Naniwa to 16K Shapton. Laser edge now. I wanted to leave the scales looking a little "rough". something about the Bengall made me want to make it "wild".

Well done Paul. Looks really nice. I would never have picked the giraffe bone, much darker and 'grainier' than I would have imagined.

    Thanks for sharing.

What a excellent job you've done on that razor, blade looks great and the scales are perfect.

I had to come back for a second look... Never been a huge fan of Giraffe Bone, but you brought out a certain look with this one that appeals to my "need to head for the hills" attitude.. You certainly captured the wild look and the execution and workmanship is really tight... The blade came out beautiful...

thanks all. I'm looking forward to seeing how Elton likes the shave off it. He will actually be the second(nervin was the first) to ever shave off of a razor honed by me other then myself.
For some reason that makes me more nervous then making the razor for him.

It is one of the things I like about Giraffe bone. This was stabilized with a brown color. I have a few different shades and one in blue. It ends up looking very organic. It's uber hard also. holds up to abuse well also.

You did a fine job with that Paul. I really like the grain of the bone.

Nice looking razor Paul! That giraffe bone reminds me of the scales used on some my vintage case xx knives. Neat grains and texture. Best Regards Ken
