Default Dovo 25 Fritz Bracht 11/16

    Hi guys,
saw this vintage Dovo on ebay about a week ago and I was attracted instantly by this razor. I won the auction and began restoration this afternoon and evening.
Spend about the whole afternoon and evening (just finished it) to restore it.
It's a vintage Dovo 25 Fritz Bracht 11/16 (1 mm under 6/8) with spike point.
Note: this is a restoration for my collection and is not for sale.

    Before:

    After:

The razor is not pinned yet, I used a litle screw to tighten it up.

I'm still wondering if I'm going to gold plate the tang of the razor (original it had gold on the tang) or not, that's why it's not pinned yet.
Thought I would share this nice Dovo with you guys (I LOVE Dovo's and certainly the vintage ones). I have a vintage Dovo 1516 also, but I'm still searching for a set of Dovo tortoise imitation scales for the 6/8 blade. So if anyone has a nice set or knows where to find them, please let me know.

That looks wonderful. I'd add that to my rotation in a second!

If you want to pursue the replacement of the gold, John at shavingshop.com used to do it.

You did a beautiful job restoring the razor

You might want to however keep a close eye on the razor for the next few weeks, the pattern of black rust that was on there at first often points toward the scales breaking down with the first stages of celluloid rot...
There are no rules or "for sure" tell tale signs for this in the early stages, so I can't say for sure, which is why I am saying keep an eye on the razor, if the razor starts to develop the same pattern of a light rust again, you have your answer and the scales need to be pulled and tossed...

Celluloid rot creates a highly corrosive gas that attacks the razors and can attack razors near by so keep the Dovo isolated until you know

    Good luck

What grit sandpaper did you use? I have never sanded a blade before, just polished with Maas and a dremel and accepted the best job it could do.

Straight razor shaver and loving it!
