Default Japanese western grind razor, regound+rescaled

This is a vintage Japanese razor sent to me for a regrind due to the hone wear. When I received it, the scales were still attached, and I had every intention of keeping them original.. of course, in order to re-grind, i needed the blade out of the scales, so, I had to unpin it ---

well..you can guess what happened... after i had filed off the peen and got out my punch to push the pin through, I tapped a SINGLE TIME with a 4oz hammer, and the pivot area of the scales broke on BOTH scales! hahahaha

Oh man, my heart sank. I really wanted to keep the originals. Instead, customer got a free set of horn scales matched up near perfectly to the originals.

The blade was re-ground using a 4" contact wheel, free handed.

That blade came out gorgeous. I really like the horn scales, they have a nice color and pattern to them. I'm certain the owner will be pleased.

Just beautiful, awesome curvature to the scales! How does it feel in the hand as far as balance? Again, beautiful.

Really nice Brad! The blade and the scales are both head turners.

The feel is surprisingly awesome. honing and stropping were a pleasure, and the slight angle to the blade with respect to the tang is, IMO, much more natural than a standard "straight" tang razor. Might have to have a few extra "test" shaves with this one...
