When we first came to Australia we drove to Perth along the south coast from Brisbane, we weren't sure of what car to get so we asked some of my wife's family for advice, there were 2 camps:
1- buy a Japanese car, they are reliable and shouldnt break down, but if they do parts might be a bit hard to get.
2- buy a ford or Holden, when they do break down parts are easy to come by.
We ended up buying a fairly new Japanese car, which did well.
I take it you know that ford actually stands for #$%&ed or repair daily. Holden should really be called hold-on, as in hold on to all the bits that broke so we can fix the car when we get home.
I have a 9 year old holden wagon, that I have known for about 3 years and owned for about 1.5. In the time I have known it ALL that has gone wrong is: various bits of trim breaking/ falling off, the notoriously brittle fuel cap breaking off, the gearbox disintegrating, the A/C degassing itself, the front rotors warping, the factory gas defining itself, the key falling apart. And probably more that I can't remember.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Thanked: 983Maybe it just doesn't like the English...It is an Aussie Icon after all...But I do agree with you about Ford. Wouldn't be seen dead in one...

Thanked: 9Well my 8yr old "style" side ute is still going tops. Oil filters, tyres and batteries are the only consumables. But it doesn't like kangaroos
Maybe Mick's right?

Thanked: 580Always had a good run out of Holdens, the secret with them is if something breaks, don't fix it, just bodgee it up.

The trouble with Perth is it's a small place and the population historically has been small too.
That might explain why there are (apparrently) so few antique razors, hones 'n' stones available.
I can't remember the last time I heard of an open air (antique) fleamarket etc.
Another point to mention is that it seems everyone is collecting something "antiquey" these days,
Razors, guitars, pocket watches, bottles, katana, first edition books, etc and I know of more than a few people who are
doing this to supplement their superannuation....http://straightrazorplace.com/workshop/18504-welcome-workshop-how-do-i-where-do-i-what-do-i-answers-here.html
