I haven't tried too many Australian beers. And, even if I do, I always wonder how long it's been shipped, gone from cool to hot, etc. In the early "80's" I did try some Tooth's Sheaf Stout. I was young and not into heavy beers, but I remember it being OK. I see it's still around, just called Sheaf Stout now. I'm curious if I see some, if I should give it another go. I have noticed though, when retrying beers of past memories, they usually fall short of my minds expectations. Is it still the same, or has it changed taste as well as name?

Not a Stout fan myself Don, so I can't help with any description. Carlton & United make that one I believe. Same people who make Fosters...And VB. VB is a good beer though, not like Fosters. The C&U company is owned by South African Brewing company SAB Miller.

Fosters is made in the UK under licence and it is a UK style beer. Its not the same as the Aussie Fosters thats more like a bad XXXX IMHO….

It seems that we all have different tastes in beer around the globe, there are some notable example from many countries, like Stella Artois or Sapporo or Budweiser all common names and all tasty beers. When I first came here I didn't think much of the beer but I have now found what I like. I bet if I went home I would struggle with the UK beers as I have a taste for Aussie ones now. Aussie beers are lighter tasting generally where as UK ones have a stronger taste to me at least.

I do like imported American beer too, especially Miller and Bud. I'm currently imbibing an Miller Chill with lime…. nice

Victoria Bitter VB is very popular in the north of Australia.

This tribe is known as the Crackatinny tribe, they seem to enjoy a VB or two...

Huh... I used to think that Fosters was the quintessential Aussie brew -- and I wasn't alone in this: my GF at the time was quite accommodating, and learned how to carry a full can without using her arms or hands, and without it being visible. A keeper (her, not the beer). But that was long ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

The only time I drank Aussie beer was when I was a teenager and Castlemaine XXXX was cheaper here than a can of coke. Terrible stuff, but did the job. Had to send dear old mum to get me a 24 box as I was too young. Not unusual to see a couple of poms whining about the beer, more than likely it wasn't warm enough. Craft beer is over priced, and usually has too much chocolate, licorice, cinnamon, lemon curd, etc. in it. Draught beer is pretty average here too, but Steinlager, served ice cold, on a hot summers day, can't be beaten. Not made in Australia, but close by.

I reckon they should sell beer by country of ownership. It would make my life so much easier. I don't like to go out and espouse, say XXXX, as Australian even though it is made here, started here and probably hasn't changed in all the time it's been here, but it is no longer an Aussie owned company. So I only buy it now if I am in the mood for foreign beer beers. Miller GD if it has to be American beer...

    Cool

Vale dark and lager, anything from Prancing Pony brewery and Fat Yak. Come on guys, there's plenty of good stuff to drink around here. Save the XXXX etc for batter.
