    Default Mineral Oil

I dont know if this is common knowledge or not, maybe I'm just a bit slow.
We hear about the use of mineral oil all the time here regarding oiling blades etc from the guys in the USA. I normally keep my eyes out for it if I'm in a chemist but I've never found it yet. However I read a post today from member macrob over in Ireland who mentioned that mineral oil is called liquid paraffin over in the U.K. So I went out today and there it is $3.10 in Coles. It seems good too, thicker than the sewing machine oil I have been using and doesnt beed up at all.
So for anyone who wasnt aware of that, hope this helps

The mineral oil that I find at my local store that is meant as a laxative is normally quite thick. I believe that you can thin it, but have never tried. Glad that you found one that work well for you.

    Thanks for posting this...
It is not common knowledge but one key is the use
as a laxative. Sewing machine oil and other lubricants
that are not 'food safe' should be avoided. We do wipe
blades clean enough so the small amounts that remain
    may prove innocuous.

If you are in the chemist (pharmacy) ask if they have a little plastic
drop bottle that you can label and keep handy in the shave den.

    IMPORTANT NOTE:
In the UK liquid paraffin is mineral oil.
In the US liquid paraffin is kerosene.

I'm not sure what it is elsewhere... Confusing the two could be dangerous.

In the Iraq liquid paraffin is a WMD.

I read in a Japanese Sword forum that baby oil is mineral oil but also contains unknown chemicals for fragrances and should therefore be avoided on valuable item such as swords and razors. Having said that I have used it though when desperate.
