Lefty .22s
So I am looking for a new .22. I don't know why but I love my .22's more than any other caliber. I am wanting something that is good for target/competition. I don't plan on professionally competing but it would be nice to have something that could hold its own in local matches. I was thinking some thing like this Savage Arms as it won't break the bank.
Theres two problems though.
One I am a lefty and while the stock is ambidextrous the bolt is not. Its not that big of a deal as I have been shooting righty guns all my life but it would be nice to have a left handed gun for what will be my favorite gun at least for a while.
Secondly, I would like it to have peep sights. If I got the above gun I would have to pay a gun smith to make it where the barrel accept peep sights and then I would have to buy the sights probably pushing the price up another 200 dollars.
Something around the $600 price range would be excellent to have said features.
Edit: For some reason the link isn't working but it is the Savage Mark II BSEVLast edited by cosperryan; 12-22-2013 at 02:24 AM.

Thanked: 60I have a savage 17HMR bolt action with accutrigger and it's a nice shooter. However, like you stated, it's going to cost you in mods to get what you want. You get get a lefty savage bolt like this but then you're still going to have to figure something out for sights.

Thanked: 60I think he's just saying that since most of these bolt rifles come with scope mounts rather than sights, he'd need to get sights and have them installed.

I would not know, but you can call "Chuck" at the Bass Pro in Dania, Fl,,ask for the range,,,he works there during the day,,,he is also the President of the Hollywood Gun Club, they have .22 caliber contests there every week. I'm sure one or more of the competitors are left handed.

Thanked: 3223You could check out these CZ-USA -> CZ 452 Left-Hand (American and Lux) . Brno CZ did make very accurate rifles when I was shooting years ago.

I have a CZ452 (trainer) an a BRNO MK4, and I really like them. Great quality for the money with the CZ's, and you can get peeps easily if you buy a model with stock irons (you can get a kit to mount BRNO peeps, which I have and really enjoy). With one without stock irons, you'd have to use a barrel band or similar.
You'd also have the option to upgrade to a match/target stock, if you are so inclined. I've got one of those, too. Really like it.

Thanked: 3223Yea, had a surplus Brno target 22 that shot to within a couple of points of my Anschutz Biathlon rifle so you know which went bye bye, not the Brno. They are no slouches. Still have a Brno 22 sporter from 1946, a few small ring Mauser center fire Brno sporters and 1 large ring Mauser Brno sporter, ZG47, in 3006. The post war production guns into the late 1950s early 1960s were very well crafted and seldom seen in the US due to import restrictions.

Thanked: 3223At one time make that for any money. See post #12 http://straightrazorpalace.com/finer...-rifles-2.html . These were not deluxe models just standard production for their time.
