Thanked: 1936Chris,
I may have to resort to your type of camping until my SWMBO is over a physical limitation that keeps us from beach camping on Padre Island National Seashore. We have been resorting to getting our "salt" fix in Florida for the past couple years, but there is nothing like waking up to a ocean sunrise in isolation.

Thanked: 375Scott, If you do go for a hardshell look around at the different layouts, can make a huge difference especially between the same size campers.
Padre Island - a guy I use to work with goes there every year, he retired last year, sounds like a nice place from what he's told me.CHRIS

Thanked: 1936If you are a beach junkie like me, like to have a bit of privacy, and would love to walk out of your tent right to the surf...it's the place for you. Tthe winds are always really blowing, so you had better be good at tying down your tent and have a good one. Sand will find it's place everywhere, but I have to say it's our little 64 mile beach of paradise. It takes a 4x4 to get much past about 5 miles down the beach and a good 4x4 to get past 12 miles. Further you go, the less and less people you see and most of the time those are just fishermen.

The woods are waking up
I have been walking/hiking more frequently since the snow is gone. Yesterday I hiked a short loop on a horse trail. This is state land where I have hiked, camped, and hunted many times.

Just returned from an overnight, car camping trip with my fishing buddy. We fished from a canoe and did okay. The water is still cold and the fishing was slow for the bodies of water we were on. The weather was great today. The temp was around 70F and very sunny. I got a bit of a sunburn while hiking this afternoon.

Thanked: 1936Nice, very nice. I do miss my camping trips my wife and I used to take out on Padre Island National Seashore. Hopefully we can get her healed up so we can go again on our vacations...
