Thanked: 102Motor Oil
Would like to know what is the favorite motor oil of the members here and how often do they change oil.
My modern vehicle have a computer that shows percentage of oil life left and when it gets down to 25 percent left, I change.
On older vehicles i change every 3000 miles.
Currently i am using Kendall in some of my vehicles and a Penzoil product in others.

used to be a Valvoline fan, now i just buy the Napa store brand cuz they told me it's made by Valvoline. saves a few cents and deep down i don't think it really matters. Every 3000, or three months.

I've used only AMSOIL* SAE 5W-30 Signature Series 100% Synthetic Motor Oil paired with AMSOIL oil filters since my car's first oil change; the oil gets changed every 12k miles. The engine has 165k miles on it so far, has only needed tune-ups, and runs great!
My motivation for going this route was purely environmental; I hope that my less frequent oil changes help offset the dolts who pour their used oil down storm drains.
* I have no affiliation with AMSOIL, which some entrepreneurs sometimes sell as a home business. When you are dead, you don't know that you are dead. It's difficult only for the others.
It's the same when you are stupid.

Thanked: 375Castrol synthetic blend - suppose to be good for 7,500 mi which is great for me I only do about 5k a year And agree with Dzanda - I mainly do it to reduce waste, cost and time so I guess environmental.
My Dad runs AMSOIL in his cars and motorcycles, he's been trying to talk me into using it for years...CHRIS

I am an auto tech, so changing my oil is easier for me than most. I go 3k at most. Have been using syn blend from a refinery in Shreveport, LA called TruSouth for 15 years in mine and as house oil in customer's cars. Some want a particular oil, so I don't stock anything else. Just order as-needed.
I, personally, am wary of extended mileage oil changes with any oil due to byproducts of combustion contaminating oil.
I do drive my cars forever, tho! I have a family fleet of 6 with 4 having over 200k on them!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Thanked: 3226I have my oil changed following the manufacturers recommended intervals for severe driving conditions. I use regular oil not synthetics. I get the oil filter changed at each oil change as I see no point in keeping the old filter in use which contains dirty oil already.
The place I found synthetic oil useful was in manual transmissions on those -20/-30C mornings. It made shifting greatly easier when starting out.

I get mine changed every 3k too. A blend, not sure just what they use, but so far so good.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
