Thread: Deer Season 2014

I spent much time bow hunting this year. Passed on a couple and it was time when the firearm season arrived to not be picky. I wanted something for the freezer and decided that the first legal one that came by was it. 1.5 hours and four deer later including a nice 6 pointer, a nice medium do was at about 9 yards. End of story!
I dislike the antler restrictions. That 6 pointer would have been great eating and a good bunch of meat. He spent over 20 minutes at around 20 yards.
No family friendly pictures of that one.

Thanked: 4826Here we have Columbia Black Tail, the annual is 15. They are the smallest of the mule deer I think. Anything over 150 dressed is a nice one. I have had very limited time and doubt I will get past two.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

I logged over 45 hours last years ( morning hunts) and only saw one deer that busted me..and I never fired my gun during the season. So this year i had that saying in my head.." if it's brown it down" ended up bagging a small spike...I got deer meat...just not that much !!!! And my 5 friends ain't got nuttin..The harvest was down this season...and our state wide herd is estimated at only 80,000... But NH is small

I have better luck with the evening hunt.
But that is probably because I don't like getting out of bed at 04:00.

Thanked: 1184I envy you guys.
I can practice all year long with my buddy Chuck.
But the only trophy pic I can take in California would look like this.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I gave up trying years ago. The first task is to get drawn for a tag. Then go out and try to find a scrawny buck (a big white tail around here is < 100 lbs on the hoof). The population keeps dropping due to 10 yrs of drought. Starting to feel sorry for them...and I love venison!
The easy road is rarely rewarding.
