    I don't have pictures...

This year was one of the worst deer hunting seasons we've had. There were just not a lot of deer on the properties I hunt.
I did manage to shoot a large doe on the second to last day of the season; it was the only deer I saw on the hoof all year.

The fun part: I shot her with a self-cast bullet from my 45-70. This was my first deer with a bullet I made. That combined with managing to get a deer at all when the party I hunt with was doing so poorly, made for a satisfying hunt.

The bullet was a 405gr cast from wheelweight metal with 2% tin. I was worried about expansion, as it's a hard alloy, but I'm pushing them pretty hard (just over 1700 fps) so I needed a hard alloy. From what I can tell, the bullet didn't expand at all, but the large meplat snowplowing through the lungs turned everything to jelly. She dropped right where she was standing.

With no place to hunt I did no good this year at all. I didn't even make it out once. I have high hopes for next year. Found a new Texas lease for deer, another for ducks, and I bought a cabin in AK for good measure. If all that doesn't help put some meat in the freezer I will be selling some hunting gear to take up needle point

That's funny! it was starting to warm up a bit, so I try to keep a carcass bag on the one that gets cut up last. Maybe next year, we will try real clothes!

OK thanks. I hunted for the first time last year and still am learning. Thanks to you I now know what a carcass bag is.

Great year, both me and my daughter picked up some 8 points near Texarkana and already have mounts back (local boy does them incredibly fast -roughly 60 days).

That said, bow season got wrecked at the feeders here by a hog problem on the lease ( why I went further south during rifle season). These boys are about to get dealt with.

It's getting harder and harder to find land to hunt on these days. I haven't been able to hunt for several years for lack of land/permission...

Yes, I'd, uh, we'd be willing to offer tender/barter for a guided...errrr.. mentored... skinning...errr... honing lesson or two. No lodging required.

    Camping lots available?

No pics. Doe and her ma right in the back yard. Down the fawn and wait for mama.

ps-what's up with no bow hunters here. Only thing I have available to me, minus a week of shotgun/muzzie, is bow and she runs from Sept-Feb.

    Great post, Lynn!
