The stevens single shot 410 was also my first gun. I got when I was 9. I still like the 410 but the shells for it cost more than the 12. To me the 410 is really an experts gun but most of the time there a young persons first. If I were to give a young man or lady a shot gun I believe it would be a 20.

i only got my first rifle last year! laws are a little different here in australia.

i got a longbranch .303 smle no 4 mk 1 (canadian built commonwealth service rifle) its been sporterised and drilled and tapped for the scope so its not very historical, but thats not why i got it. i got some pigs with it the first time i took it out. it hits hard and the ten round magazine comes in very handy.

Stevens top break 410 shotgun at age 5. Could nearly hold it up and had to cock the hammer with both thumbs while resting it on my knee. My father had the stock significantly shortened for me. I took a lot of game with it over the years including quail, rabbits and squirrel. I still have it in the back of my gun safe that is way too full of other much more expensive guns but none are worth more to me than that cheap 410 and my dads Winchester 190 .22 S/L/LR that he taught me to shoot rifles with. It has gone through a house fire and is no longer serviceable but it sits next to the 410 in a place of honor.

My dad bought it for something like $25/30 that he saved up quarters for in the late 60's. I just bought a shootable one in near NOS condition and paid a little over $200 for but well worth the cost to be able to teach my daughter to shoot on the exact same model that I learned on.

Funny how we all covet fancy/expensive firearms as we age but nothing is ever worth as much as your first dirt cheap and well used first gun.

I just hope my grandchildren are still getting their first gun someday as well...

And a finer pump shotgun there ever was, and one of the best shooters of all time used one all over the world in exhibition shooting, Mr Herb Parsons , of west Tennessee, and a relative of my wife, her great uncle. My only claim to fame Tc

One of the best for sure, but as I got older my duck busters became autos,Older round knob browning A5s and win. Model 50s (the last all steel shotgun win ever made)
