Mine was at 8 or 9 yrs old.
My father gave me his mod. 97 Winchester.
This gun has been handed down the generations of our family. This is a picture of my grandfathers nephew Ewell ( man on far right ) holding the 97. And myself below in 1987.
That gun has put more food on the table than krogers grocery store

You should check some of the ones they have now. Heck at walmart you can get one that is 1300 fps and has some kinda silencer type thingy and it takes less effort for the pump. Has a thumbhole stock and scope too all for like 100 bucks. I have been thinking about getting one just for shooting in the back yard.

WW243, this rifle is a little unusual, it may have been made for the colonial Australian market, for dropping the odd Kangaroo. I modify some 38/40 brass and fire form them, then load with 44/40 dies on an old simplex turret press. It takes about 23 grs of FFFg goex and a 200 grn 44 bullet.
Keep yo hoss well shod an yo powdah dry !

On so many levels this is a sweet rifle. Looks like a heavy barrel for the cartridge...accurate? No for-end? I guess no heat, no need for for-end. . Must be fun to shoot a piece of history, like shaving with a 19th century razor, sort of...Thanks again for posting the pic.
