Bees are out flying and they are bringing in pollen - not sure from what but they are busy. Supposed to be real warm again today so I will get in the hives and will feed them winter patties and get the feeders on the hives.

Spent another $300 on bee supplies today. Total to date this year $883.83 [And I thought RAD or HAD were bad!]

Other than feed I should be good to go until I start running out of medium supers. I only wish that happens....

I am thinking that my starting out this year with drawn comb will be a positive thing.

6 to 8 hives this year depending if I get the 2 I still have through and can split them.

Im so glad to find this thread here! Last year me, my father and my sister started keeping bees together. Every now and then I wondered if there were any beekeepers on this forum, I thought it would be a good place to share progress and pitch ideas back and forth (yeah, there probably are some beekeeping forums out there, but I like it here at SRP)

We started out with two hives and since everything went pretty smooth and we learned the procedures, we are probably going to expand ti three (or four if possible) this year.

    Looking forward to beekeeping season!

    Regards,
    JackeHj

Are you going to get them through the winter? If we do here then you split them. That would get you 4!

I am going to visit mine Saturday and feed them. If I can get these through I am going to have to learn more about splitting a hive.

It looks like its going to be no problem getting them through the winter. We had a mild winter so they werent cold, and they har food enough.

Im not yet sure exactly how to split a hive eighter. But the guy we bought the hives from have been most helpful and he will teach us. He has over 50 hives... so Id gues he knows what he is doing...

I have fed both of my hives winter patties twice and they are finishing it. I need to get in them and feed winter patties again. In about 3 weeks it will be warm enough to put the top feeders on and take the insulation blankets off of the hives. So far both are looking good.

I've read about this and tried to explain honey laundering to my wife. Just yesterday I told her to put local honey (a bee keeper two miles from us has his honey at the grocery store) on the shopping list. I'm going to send a link to this article to my wife.
