Lots of good recs so far-bourbon is definitely having a moment. I tend towards the sweeter "wheated" bourbons like Makers Mark (but if I have the money for high-end, Pappy-type stuff, I'm spending it on scotch!). But my current favorite if you can find it in France is Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve-just utterly delicious. I swear it has triple the flavor of other bourbons, at least to me.

always been a Jack Daniels drinker. Gentleman Jack by far is one of my favorites and a few years back was turned on the Prichard's Double Barrel Bourbon and Prichard's Double Barrel Chocolate Bourbon. Fine fine sippin whiskey no mixers just whiskey in a glass.
All 3 definitely worth a tasting!The Big Guy ~ A Savage Gentleman

Bourbon has become too popular. The demand for it is off the charts. Not many years ago I would walk into my local shop and pick up a bottle of Pappy van Winkle and think nothing of it. Pappy van what? Yeah, unless you are paying for it by the glass in a restaurant that is gouging you, you probably aren't drinking it at all these days. Its simply not available anymore. The price and demand for bourbon has skyrocketed leaving the shelves dry. Last week I went into my local store and there were "one bottler per customer" signs next to many of them on the shelves. Couldn't believe my eyes. My favorite was the Pappy 15 year old. I actually thought it lost a step in the 20 year old version. It seemed to hollow out and lose some of its backbone and richness. 15 seemed to be the sweet spot. But its been a while since I've had any of that. My other favorite (again, no longer available) was Elijah Craig 18 year old. So what's left? Buffalo Trace is in my opinion the best bang for the buck. There are better bourbons but the price you'll pay will be significantly higher. Wild Turkey Rare Breed, the standard Elijah Craig, Blanton's, and High West are other favorites.
