Thanked: 3226It might be as simple as never buy anything that is too precious to loose either by accident or theft. Simply put, if you can't afford to loose it you really can't afford to buy it.

In these days and times you can get whacked in walmart parking lot or the win dixie. Not just for your watch but your wedding ring your shoes the change in your pocket. A co worker was mugged at a red light in the middle of the city not far from the police station. I understand if you got it flaunt it but some times it's wiser to not to. I was in the USAF back in the late 60s and early 70s and sometimes you can't recognize those places until your already there. When the wife and I go places I always keep in mind where I'm at and who else is there and watching for a way out or how to defend us. It's sad but that's the state this world has gotten into. Oh I'm a Roger too.

Really the possibility of theft is no reason to factor in when buying a watch. Just buy what you like and wear it with common sense. I wouldn't wear a solid gold Rolex to re-roof my house and I wouldn't wear it on the wrong side of town either. I have other watches for both circumstances.

I’ve had my Rolex Sea-Dweller on my arm since 1999. No one ever notices. Buy whatever YOu want not what someone on the net tells you. Merry Christmas.

Thanked: 1936I am a poor boy, so a black stainless Seiko auto-winding 23 jewel that's waterproof to 100m is my daily wear. Looses about 2 minutes per week unfortunately, may have to have it serviced.

I'm wearing a Timex that cost me $35 last summer in El Cajon CA when my $25 Timex quit.
The first time I went to change the month, the stem pulled out so I just crammed it back in! While the month doesn't work it keeps great time!

If theft is a concern then insure it. Your homeowners policy covers probably jewelry to a limited amount so you just buy extra. You send them an appraisal for the watch and you have a piece of mind. High end watches come with expenses beyond the purchase price.
