From my driving experience with the car it’d be a good 6-8 hour drive to kill a tank, holds 35 gallons I think.
And I’ve never gone more than 2 without needing a stop and stretch, but a visual gage like buddy did on his tank does have its merit..

In typical British post war logic I guess they figured who cares about any fuel level except when you are running low so go with a simple warning. Long road trips weren’t a thing in the early 50s.

I'd seen this type of setup for seeing oil levels before but never for fuel. With modern plastics it could be applied for your purpose.

Way back before I joined Safeway and was still working for the family run grocery store, there was an older woman who's '64 Chevy station wagon wouldn't start. I happened to be doing a carry out for another customer and I asked if I could help. She declined and said her gas gauge was broken and she was pretty sure she was out of gas. She then produced a wooden rod that she inserted into the gas filler tube and it came out clean. She pulled a gas can out of the rig and walked to a nearby gas station.
Never seemed to bother her a bit.Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Switching gears back to the suspension tonight.
Reaallized the front suspension should be back in place before the wings go back on, so now as good a time as any.
Too late to start lifting springs back into place and I need to clean up the upper trunnions inner mating surfaces to receive the new inserts fully.
While I did go urethane on all wishbone mounts for longevity and stiffness, I deferred to a recommendation about keeping some real rubber in there so kept the upper kingpin trunnion mounts rubber. Should give a little cushion still, and are the easiest to change out later, if they wear to any degree cause I actually wear Them out driving her..
Note the new arms with custom made sway bar link ready to receive the sway bar! Also note the clearance up at the shock arm I need to shim out with 1/2 washers. The mgb had narrower shock arms than the TD. But aside from that, the suspension upgrade was pretty straightforward,, so far.
The anticipated ride improvements alone makes this rebuild worth the work. Everything else just adds to the win..

I was thinking that was a lot too. I get 18 gal in my car and its small. I think the wifes SUV is 24 gal.
It's just Sharpening, right?

My 3/4 ton suburban used to have a 120 litre tank. I think that right around 30 US gallons.
