Thanked: 4207Been going over the top politically up here since Christmas. But they finally announced an election so we can regain some normality in my Country.
Not so much about the car.
Although I have done near everything she needed to get her ready to safety. That’s scheduled for this week. Now that the snows melted I’ve finally been able to get out and test drive the new ride.
Got a vibration when steering left, more noticeable at speed. Swapped the front tires to test, without change so I’m hoping it’s merely an alignment issue and will have them check tomorrow.
Spindles, bearings, sub frame and tie rods all seem tight and in good nick. Had an SRS fault in the knee air bag that was a wiring issue, fixed, and I spent the weekend getting 20 years of swirls out of the paint.
She’s a cute, classy looking coupe. And a real different pleasure with the top down, but windows up. So much less wind I reckon Ruth will be OK with longer jaunts this summer.
Cheers gents."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Looks great, Mike! Glad it's shipshape. That has the folding hardtop, eh? auto or standard?

Thanked: 4207Thanks Tom.
Yup folding hardtop and 6 spd standard.
When it’s up the top is quiet like a hard top.
The fact it’s a standard makes it a lot of fun."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

I think that you need to pull the engine and rebuild it. Same thing with the transmission! Maybe put a supercharger on the engine with straight pipes coming out of the hood. When do you think you'll get started on that project? Can't wait for pictures....

Thanked: 4207I prolly will be pulling the entire engine next winter John. Want to do the timing chain as she has 250k on her.
Slightly chain rattley sounding till the hydraulic tensioner kicks in. But that’ll be after a season as I promised the misses no car projects this year. This’ll be the season of local car shows in the MG, and weekend, or coastal get away’s in the Benz.
If I ever get a reason to drive the PCH, it’ll be in something like this SLK.
Got a call from the shop and it seems the rear control arms have bad bushings and that was my left vibration in the wheel. But aside from that she’ll pass safety!
Woo hoo."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Thanked: 4207Think this summer we are doing the East run Bob.
Never been east of Montreal by car in my entire life. Got a recommended route maybe?"Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."
