Thanked: 983I was thinking PVC for the homemade job as well. Don't know if it would ever become an heirloom though.

Iv'e been playing the flute since my late teens.
I started off trying to teach myself, then I had some professional lessons in 1975.
In 1977 I found a teacher & did grade work ect.
I had the great good fortune to meet someone through a mutual. friend who's flutes I overhauled.
His name was Sandy Orba & he became a great friend as well as a teacher.
He taught me mainly classical music.
Sadly He passed away in July this year due to cancer it was sudden & a complete shock to all his friends & family.
My flute is an Altus 805 with an open G sharp key set up .
This was the original configuration of the Boehm flute.
This was a bit of a struggle at first but it has quite a few advantages so for me its worth the effort involved to change over.
Cheers Paul

Electric Bass, even owned a Carl Thompson at one point. Now I just jam out on the ukulele.
From their stillness came their non-action...Doing-nothing was accompanied by the feeling of satisfaction, anxieties and troubles find no place

Playing an instrument
Bought a handmade Native American flute. It was made by Odell Borg from aromatic cedar and is in the key of a. It's going to be a challenge to learn, I'm sure, but should be fun doing so.

Played trumpet, tuba, and baritone in marching and symphonic bands. Bass player in high school jazz band for two years. Played bass in quite a few local bands. Play a Warwick corvette 5 string, passive 5 string jazz, memphis p/j 4 string on ampeg cabinet.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 983I've since done just that, and made a Didge from PVC pipe. Has a great sound, but I'm still working on the circular breathing. I've also had far too much time away from the guitar, so I've been back at that to get back into practice. Been on the low whistles a fair bit and was playing Bodrhan around at a mates place last the weekend previous. Don't know what possessed me, as I haven't really had a great deal of time on the Bodrhan, but it all fell into place that weekend and I managed to jam to a few tunes and hold the beat and timing, and even added a few 'ornaments', for want of the correct terminology, in my playing.
Finding I might also want to try Ukelele and perhaps pick up a Bodrhan of my own to practice with. maybe down the track though for the Bodrhan. They can be kind of expensive where a Uke doesn't have to be for just muck around stuff to begin with.

Thanked: 983The Uke thing has happened. Not sure what I think just yet as it's only been a few days, but pretty sure I should have waited and got a concert or tenor size rather than the soprano. I think I would prefer them for both sound/tonal quality and the little extra space for my fat fingers to form the chords better. One thing is sure, a halfway decent soprano Ukulele won't break the bank. And I was surprised at how much music I found for this instrument on the internets, just a print-out away.

Thanked: 10Trombone in marching band and symphonic in high school. My grandfather gave me one of his. Don't remember what the story was behind it but it was old. It got stolen from my moms garage after I joined the army. Now I play the bass
