Thanked: 1587I've just recently taken up the piano again after a few years with just a guitar. I'd forgotten how much fun and enjoyment you can get from sitting around playing music at night.

I play air guitar with a white man overbite now and then, but only when I'm alone.
I ran my fingers through a band saw in high school shop, so that ended my real guitar career. I was learning to play at the time. Since then I've wanted to take up the banjo, but I'm still in the same boat there. I've been toying with the Dobro, but it's limiting. I've also picked up a few nice harmonicas, but I'm not that good...yet.

I picked five string Banjo (Bluegrass) for about thirty years. Arthritis stopped that. I played Bass Fiddle for several years, until Arthur stopped that too. Now, I mostly play "Possum."

I've restarted on the tinwhistle again. Now I'll just have to push myself, one song a week at least

I've played guitar for about 11 years, mandolin for two (but not as seriously). After the army and before college, I started a punk band with a friend I met in medic's course. I left for school in California, but the band's still going, struggling to make a dent in the Israeli rock scene. I still contribute songs and graphics every now and again. We're called Fishyboom...uh, don't ask. I'd link to the band's website but it's all in Hebrew.
When I'm jamming on my own I'll play anything from the Ramones to Tom Petty to Pixies to Dylan to...well, you get the idea. I'd play more Jazz if I had the chops (looooove that gypsy swing!) but alas, rock and blues is about all I can manage. Some of my favorite players: Marc Ribot, T-Bone Walker, Muddy Waters, Jimi, Robert Quine, Django, Lyle Workman, Wes Montgomery, Kurt Rosnwinkel, Joey Santiago, Andy Summers and Mick Ronson. And, even though he didn't play guitar, Monk's a big influence, just for the way he knew to play all the wrong notes in all the right places
I've messed around with the penny-whistle, harmonica and banjo as well. no serious level of proficiency though. Attached is a photo of me mugging with my musical menagerie.

I played trombone and bass trombone formally for about 8 years. Unfortunately, in college its hard to find time to play unless its your major. It is something I really miss. I have a Conn 88h open wrap which is plays similar to a Bach Strad. with a warmer sound. I've been apart of both symphonic and jazz bands.

I play the trumpet mostly, for about 35 years now. I do some jazz a little classical but my new favorite is drum corps. I played with the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps for a few years as a lead soprano and boy I really loved that upper register of the Horn.

SAXOPHONE MOUTHPIECES
I had the honor of meeting Claude Lakey. He was the reed section leader for The Harry James big band in the 1940's. Claude also started out with Glenn Miller. After the Big Band era, Claude bought a music store and then another. One of the noble things he did was to start youth bands in the Los Angeles, CA area in the '50s and '60s. One of his bands is the marching band in the movie THE MUSIC MAN (76 trombones, etc). Later Claude designed some jazz saxophone mouthpieces and they" speak for themselves". Each of the finished mouthpieces was hand finished and fine tuned by Claude himself. When he died in 1990, his widow gave me some of those mouthpieces for helping her after the death. I want to sell them for $50each. They are the genuine tested-by-Claude items. Lakey Mouthpieces are still being made. They are good-but they are not the original items. For $50 your alto sax will indeed cut clean! Jazz or otherwise. If interested, PM
