Great a new hobby. There goes the money. I use a pen all day at work writing up findings and such.I would be nice to have something better than these cheap ballpoint pens they give me.
Edit: I just saw a nice $7000 namiki. maybe I will get that. No, seriously, it was nice.Last edited by zenshaver; 09-08-2008 at 05:16 PM.

I really do like the namiki oriental designs and such but there prices are WOW.Does anyone know where I can get similar designs for under $100. A ballpoint version may even be better since I do a lot of writing.

you are never going to get real maki-e (or even a reasonable facsimile thereof) for under a hundred bucks, but there are companies that make good ones for only a few hundred. a lot of the chinese pens are in the maki-e style and aren't that much, i think Hero makes some.

Thanked: 0Cheap and Chinese
I carry a Hero 329 for everyday use, filled with Aurora black. The 329 is a very fine, hooded nib that's stiff enough to use on carbonless forms and the Aurora ink is the blackest fountain pen ink ive ever seen. and the Hero writes great. I use it in my checkbook.
And the 329 cost like 12 bucks, so when I lose it or break it or what ever, I won't sit down and cry like i would if something happened to my Pelikan.

Currently using:
Monte Blanc Starwalker
Levenger Newton (brass)
A handmade Cocobolo pen from my cousin
and a basic Rotring brushed aluminum for my beater
I have a couple of parkers (but don't care for the narrow pens) and a waterman of some sort that collect dust.

Would you guys say that a fountain pen cartridge lasts you as long as a regular ballpoint pen? I do a lot of writing at work and I would not want to get a fountain pen and always have to replace the cartidges.
