I have a fairly cheap fountain pen that I got from Muji (which is sort of the Japanese Ikea), it actually writes well and I'm pretty happy with it.

My uncle restores fountain pens as a hobby, and specializes in Sheaffer plunger-fillers. I have two pens he gave me, but they're over at his house undergoing some maintenance. One's a mid-40s tuckaway in silver-striped celluloid, the other's a full-size in carmine (I think). Both are plunger-fillers with Triumph conical nibs. Since he gave them to me, he's developed better methods for restoring pens of this sort and mine weren't filling properly. By next week they should be ready to roll, and I'll post some photos. These pens are great...the Triumph nib is nigh indestructable! Built to last a lifetime.

    Default The Sheaffers!

I got my Sheaffer pens back from my uncle, here they are. The shorter one is a gray Sheaffer Tuckaway, the other is a green Sheaffer Statesman.

Nice Sheaffers! I love both of mine, but today it was a couple of black pens in my pocket: Rotring 600 and Lamy 2000, both loaded with Polar Black.

Nothing fancy... just a Mont Blanc Meisterstuck ball pen and a Waterman Carene black sea fountain pen... and in my laptop bag a simple Caran d'Ache ball pen, special edition made for the 50 years anniversary of the CERN

I've been thinking about getting a decent rollerball pen. I'm looking for something solid that performs well as opposed to "luxury" - if you know what I mean. Can any of you gents in the know point me in the right direction?

A Waterman that belonged to my Grandfather!

Ps I'm also smoking one of his pipes and stropping my razor on his old strop! ( he died in 1966 aged 94)

I don't much of anywhere without my Mont Blanc Starwalker rollerball with a twist seal cap. I've used Mont Blancs for over 10 years and love them. If I ever lose one, I'll be ordering a replacement shortly thereafter.

You can check out the current product line here: MONTBLANC - Writing Instruments

And an online store with *great* pricing is Montblanc Pens At JOON New York - All The Best Pens In The World They can't advertise the prices that they sell but I think it's a standard 15% discount below what Mont Blanc dictates as normal pricing.

Actually, there are a couple of Joon stores in NYC. I'll have to stop in there.

Now I'm getting tempted to try a fountain pen - I'm a lefty though so I know I'll wind up with ink all over my hand.

Any suggestions for how to start out with fountain pens?

the Lamy Safari or AlStar is a great starter pen that writes well and will last forever. German engineering at its best
