Great... so I just read this webpage

    http://pipes.priss.org/howto.php

And now I'm gettin ready to shoot over those sites you guys posted.. Gonna have to buy a pipe... My reasoning is this... I dont have a place to smoke my pipe where I live. I could, but I think itd be weird to learn in front of a bunch of college kids. I am taking summer courses (my last semester before i graduate in august!) and they are in Cocoa beach (30 minutes from main campus). I get out at 10pm... So, I am thinking, head over to the beach... Learn to smoke my pipe there and relax.

The page I read all about matchs and maybe a lighter, what about a zippo? Is that not advised due to the fuel it uses?

I feel some of the best value pipes are:

    http://pulversbriar.com
    http://briarblues.com/
    http://www.thepiperack.com/

all have good value in pipes. They sell pre-smoked pipes all cleaned up and ready to smoke. They represent their pipes honestly.

Here is a recent purchase that is a new pipe that I got for under $100 from Pulver's Briar.

Pulver's specials page is pretty picked over right now. He puts up new stuff pretty frequently. He does have some well priced Bjarnes, a nice meerscaum on the misc page, and on the Italian page the Le Marche Pipes (like the one above) are good value.

I have a few mid priced pipes that smoke pretty good but still love the cob pipe. It is cheep and smokes cool. If it gets tainted by an aromatic you dont like throw it away and get another. These are good http://www.corncobpipe.com/. I am going to order the Mac before long.
As for tobacco in Ohio I like Barclay in Columbus. They are helpful and have a blend called montana that is a slight aeromatic and does not offend nonsmokers but smokes like an english. Best of both worlds for me.

    Default Update

    Thank you everyone!
    Here is my personal update:
I went to smokers forum and signed up. The website layout looks exactly like this one, actually. I posted over there a couple of questions and they answered very quickly and were very helpful.

If anyone is interested, you should go register. It's like a bizzaro universe, they talk about PAD and they gift starter pipes as long as you pay it forward. Crazy.

    ctufano,

You can use a Zippo for pipe smoking. They make a new
lighter fluid that is odorless which is really good. I have
a Zippo pipe lighter that I use all the time. Good luck.

    Default ebay & pipes

If you are not too bothered about alleged, though I suspect unfounded, issues with second hand or 'estate' pipes, there are many high quality ones to be had on ebay for just a few quid. One of the cheapest and easiest ways to try out pipe smoking is to buy a few (not too many) and a few tobaccos, and try them out. You will find that different tobaccos smoke differently in different pipes, and that your original expensive investment made in the first flush of enthusiasm is not the best pipe for your eventually preferred tobacco.

For my money, being a wet smoker, I tend to prefer a falcon during the day whilst at work with an english tobacco like latikia. In the evening I prefer a long churchwarden with perique.

Get to it anyway, regardless of other health issues, it is excellent for mental health!

Any of you out there might like to look at growing yr own tobacco as well. www.coffinails.com (only one 'n') I'm just starting out on that one, but it looks fun.

Indeed it is, it does help the thought process and it's very obvious why it was made a main charactersitic of the mastermind Sherlock Holmes!

    One of my favourites, a Stanwell H.C. Andersen with replacable churchwarden stem;

I almost exclusively smoke mixture, Black Cavendish mixtures are the basis of my tobacco collection. It's very nice!
