Our GSD/Husky girl, Cairo, passed away in 2013. When my boys were born she was already a 10 yo grouch. She never really warmed up to our kids but when anybody walked into the room or you we just had them in front of the house she always quietly positioned herself between the kids and whoever was visiting. Sort of saying, I might not like them but I will protect them.
Interestingly those 2 pics are taken 3 days apart in south west Missouri. It was at the end of January, it went from warm to a massive snowstorm. Then in May we had an EF5 tornado.

My cherished Basilio passed today August 3rd, two moths to the date his partner Carmen passed. It is a sad and empty house tonight!

It is with deep sorrow that I hear of this news, Dan. I am so very sorry. Those of us that love dogs as family members know your grief all too well. But as you say, they are now together again, and running like the wind. Take solace in that.
My beloved Cocker is approaching 15, and she's blind now from sudden onset Glaucoma. Her brother passed 5 years ago and when she goes, she will take my heart with her. I dread that day. But a new puppy will be close behind after I grieve a while.
When the time is right, you will get more four legged children. For now, my heart goes out to you for the loss.

Thank you my friend for the soft kind words. Basilio's condition deteriorated very quickly over the past week. Whatever he contracted caused great swelling of the brain causing the loss of vision in his right eye. For 48 hours he has only moved with my help, and water was all he would take for for the last 7-days. He was very weak. The little joy I have at this moment is knowing that when he awoke this morning he was much more alert and responded to his name. We had a nice morning together before we went to the vet's at 3. He passed easily with his head on my one hand and my other hand was on his heart. The last couple of days were really bad for him. If I lifted him he would have diarrhea or urinate (I have a very pretty white carpet) and those stains will not full come up. The carpet cleaner said it was a shame it happened on the carpet, and my response was, he had to be by my side; the carpet can be replaced. Time will heal the pain of loss and he will always remain in my heart. Right now he running with Carmen again.

I happen to think two dogs in the house is the right number. They usually become great friends and comfort each other. Although one is fine as well. I rescued two Cockers from kill shelters. Kirby (Left) was 8 when I adopted him, and Cydney (Right) was 1. This is a picture of them enjoying each other's company about 10 years ago when Kirby was 10 and Cyd was 3. Kirby passed about 5 years ago and Cyd is still with me at 14 years old. She's blind now with sudden onset Glaucoma, but still very sweet. She was a trooper and adapted to her blindness better than I would have it I were in her place. Dogs really can rely on scent and hearing. I decided to pass on getting another companion for her because she did surprisingly well on her own after Kirby's passing. But when she goes, after I get over the gut wrenching heart break, I'll adopt two more from a shelter.

I am so sorry for your loss, especially 2 months after your other beloved pet. It's like losing your own child. yes, the carpet can be replaced & it will take some time. Someone poisoned a dog of mine 18 years ago & it tore me up really bad. It took me awhile to get over the main part of it but I still can't get over the fact someone did that to my beloved pet just to get into my home & take some things.
My prayers are with you my friend.

Thanked: 4206Beautiful dogs Dan, and Alex.
Sorry for you both.
Dan, their passing so close, another proof of their bonds depth.
There is some solace in that, and you said it well. They run together still..

Thanked: 4206You ever come across something and think WTF is all this?
We are doing a yard makeover and I had to pull down the steps from the kitchen that went over this window well.
I have found my dogs stash site!
When I realised what I discovered, had to share..
