So sorry to hear of this, Paul. Be comforted that your boy, Maximus led a fantastic life with you.

You did the right thing Paul! Letting go is hard but it is something that we all know will happen eventually. Sorry for your loss!

Thank you all for your condolences. Yes. We all know it is coming. It is almost inevitable that we will outlive them. It is part of the unwritten contract we make when we take them on. As we do with our own mortality we live in the blissful ignorance of theirs. But, I feel that the love and joy they bring us far outwieghs the sorrow, no matter how great.
We were actually given some providences of great mercy in how it transpired. Without going into detail, because of benevolent circumstances we were granted time to spend with him instead of panicked horror and were able to provide him a peaceful parting with love from his family instead of pain and suffering. Suffice it to say it could have been much worse.

    Again, my most heartfelt thanks.

    Sorry to hear this Paul.
Having to put a friend down is just plain shitty, no other words.

So sorry to hear this. I've had to do this more than a few times and it is tough, really tough.

But the memories will always be there.

Brought Max home today. I have buried every dog we've had. I was going to with him too but Max was 130+lbs and 30 1/2" tall at the withers and it took all three of us to get him in the car to go there. It was hard to not take him with me though. That's my job to carry them home or from home to the backyard to bury them. But even though it felt weird leaving him there they did it quickly and gave us a nice package to bring home. I didn't even know you could have a dog cremated.
I didn't even realize how much it bothered me until I picked him up. It was just an overwhelming sense of releif. Now we can have some finality.
    Man I love that dog.
