We officially qualify as crazy dog people I guess. We decided to go ahead and reunite the litter mates.

Martin on the right. Luther on the left.

As soon as we got his brother they both sleep all the way through the night. Although they must have an alarm because 4:54-4:59 they are up and ready to go out.

Major is his name, and at 175 lbs he is a major handful.. Great dog too.
Dave says he loves coming to Uncle Mike’s place cause of the pool, and the big yard to play in..

He says they are at around 150 lbs.which seems low to me since Maximus is 139, basically only 10lbs less. Although, he is probably as tall as that mastiff.

Having the two new puppies that are so small I have been concerned about it for a while especially since I have seen and constantly hear them but tonight my wife was looking out at the back yard and yells out, "What in the hell?! Look at the size of this bird!" I got there just in time to see the wings as it was flying away. She described it and I showed her some pictures from Google and sure enough, as I suspected it was a great horned owl. I hear barred owls all the time which is concerning but the other night I heard a great horned in the trees right overhead. That is a bird that would not hesitate to grab a 3 lb puppy and fly off. The fact that it was bold enough to stand right near the porch after I just went inside means that that joker is hungry.

Time to get serious about the anti-raptor measures.

Yeah, fortunately we don't live near water with alligators. We do however have coyotes and the giant pythons (Burmese and Anaconda) are moving up our way. Just for the sake of perspective this is how big great horned owls get:

I have a question for you, I am aware that the hunting of the pythons is sanctioned by the state. How much is the bounty on the pythons? Or do they do it like with the alligators, by the pound? I've also heard that iguanas are on the hit list also, sounds like pest hunters paradise....

It's a little convoluted. There are contractors who are paid hourly plus a bonus for snakes caught (unclear on what that is) then there are freelancers who are paid $50 up to 4' plus $25 /additional foot. Then there is The Florida Python Challenge which is like a reality show event like the great race. It's a very Florida man kind of hootenanny. The sanctioned stuff is mostly in the Everglades and most of the participants are real swamp-billies but invasive species hunting is a statewide effort. I collect as many Cuban treefrogs as I can get and "euthanize " them.
