The state of California has what they call 'Sharing the Lane' which is were a motorcycle can freely use the area between cars to ride. Personally I think that it's stupid. The bikes that use it always seem to be some guy on a rice rocket and he's not typically just going slowly--OH NO--he's doing 60 miles per hour while the traffic is barely moving.

Owned bikes when I was younger, been having a yearning lately for another, told my wife she said she would leave me If I ever got on another bike, we love sports bikes I the UK, Harley Davidsons are affectionately referred to as old man's motors, I really like the look of the new Ducati Monster 1200.

You get old riders, you get bold riders but you don't get old, bold riders.

Unfortunately it's 5, including a father and son.
All the men that do this do it of their own free will, no contracts are made in which they have to do the course.
I can only imagine all the riders do it for the thrill and adrenaline rush and if it wasn't so dangerous they wouldn't do it.

I haven't had a bike since coming to Canada, never saw the point of driving along at the same speed as the cars, not overtaking and queing up at the lights just like a car, might just as well sit in a car. Also, the riding season is short, in Britain I rode all year round. Anyway, I'm 60 now.
I've never been a Harley or tourer sort of guy, I liked to go everywhere head first but unless you are going good to get some air under your chest, it can be hard on your wrists.

In the Uk I was gentle with a passenger on the back but I was BOLD when I was on my own, oh I do miss that twist of the wrist.

I remember going out for a scratch with my brother, I was behind him on my Kawasaki 750 and he was on his Yamaha F1. I had been chasing him for miles but couldn't take him. All of a sudden he eased off so I screamed by with a big grin and hit the bend with sparks off my footrest. Then I realized why he had slowed down - the T Junction ahead.
I almost ended up with a flat spot on my tire trying to stop and nearly threw up in my helmet I was so scared

I stand corrected on the death toll. It is understood to be voluntary and for extreme adrenaline junkies. It is a closed race course and not the open road so no problem.

Occasionally I watch the MotoGP races on Youtube. Some of the riders have worn real-time heart rate monitors.
Much to my surprise, they can experience heart rates of 170 bpm! Did any of the 2022 IOM TT riders wear the BPM monitors?
For me, with a history of heart attacks, a heart rate that high would probably induce heart fibrillation and failure, so no racing for me!

I do enjoy riding my Harley (when it is not in the shop for repairs!) and my Honda VFR800. The VFR800 is well suited for the area and type of riding that I enjoy. Wooded, very hilly terrain with lots of curves and up and down the sides of the big hills. The area I ride in is Buffalo County Wisconsin. It is called the "driftless" area because the glaciers never went thru there resulting in the tops of the hills were never leveled off! The "Driftless" area encompasses many more counties that are south and I hope to explore them this summer.
Here is a link to a Google map of the county........

Not sure if they wear heart rate monitors whilst racing, I read that John Mcguiness once wore one and his heart rate was in the gentle aerobic range! And he's no young man to be competing at the highest level!

Although I commute on my bike rain or shine all year round going through the twisties in the hills is my favourite place to ride. Wisconsin Buffalo County looks like my idea of motorcycling heaven.
