Thanked: 1081I try and not watch them as I'd never go out on my bike again. Most days I get cut up, too many idiots driving around on auto pilot not thinking about the road.

In the UK it's part of the riding test and if you don't do it you fail, simple as that, British motocyclist go much faster than North Americans and filter but very few come off unless some myopic car driver pulls out of a side street without looking properly.
One of mine when I was in England, I used to love the twisties and getting sparks from the footrests.
I could get from junction 14 on the M1 to Wembley when I was a train driver at Stonebridge Park in 40 minutes on that rocket, but then on my bike I was nutty as squirel s**t.
Loads of people ride bikes in Britain, notice even I had a shirt and tie under my leather jacket.- - Steve

Thanked: 3224I could have misunderstood "filtering through traffic" to mean some rider driving between two cars to get ahead at stop lights or creep up beside waiting for the light to change.
If you mean travelling with the flow of traffic in the proper lane then that is normal driving. Everyone is at risk from a myopic driver regardless of the myopic driver being in a car or on a motorcycle/bicycle. When that happens it is just a matter of who gets the worst of it.

Nope, I meant driving up the center of the road beside the stationary traffic to get to the front, for 100's of yards or more, sometimes over a mile. iI's expected and part of the motorcycle test.
There's no point having a bike if all your going to do is sit behind a queue of traffic breathing in their exhaust fumes. The idea at least in Britain is to get there faster.
if a myopic car driver pulls out of a side street in front of a motorbike, the bike always comes off worst, everytime.
There's nothing as scary as seeing a car sitting in a side road when your going 80mph, please please see me.
I know that someone will say that bikes shouldn't go that fast but it needs to be considered that out of town on unposted roads in Britain the speed limit is 60mph so 80 is only 20 mph over the limit and I have experienced plenty of wallies over here in my car that come screaming by me in their cars just so they can sit directly in front of me at the next lights.Last edited by STF; 06-15-2022 at 04:10 PM.

Thanked: 3224Ah well, then I did not misunderstand you in the first place so I'll let stand what I said, dangerous and illegal here. Yes, we all know that in a collision the smaller vehicle comes out the worst. If people like to habitually tempt fate when they know they will wind up on the losing end in a collision I don't see much point in it.

Thanked: 1081For those that don't watch or understand road racing I'd urge you to watch Road, it's about the Dunlop dynasty. A road racing family that's blood runs in this sport. Literally. Heart wrenching for the family and only more poignant as William Dunlop died whilst road racing in 2018 after the film was made.

I guess this years races at the Isle of Man TT are a good example of the dangers of this type of racing. IIRC, 3 dead in a weeks worth of racing.
