I am in Philly for a two week trip, so today I drove up to Allentown to visit Cigars International. They were having a special today. Carlos Torano was at the shop (Torano Cigars). Got to meet the owner, Carlos, spent a good half hour talking with him and the US rep. Got a box of Exodus 1959 box pressed Torro Maduro’s which Carlos signed for me, a freebee 5 cigar sample pack which includes a yet to be released special edition cigar for 2009 and another 3 stick freebee to round out his product line and a Carlos Torano hat. Very nice guy and some darn good cigars. Not often you get to have a premium cigar with the owner of the cigar company. Fun day.

To be honest.... getting to keep my job. The company I work for did a MAJOR house cleaning. The "straight razor" came really close to me.... to close for comfort!

Been enjoying some incredible Pata Negra de Bellota. Aged 36 months from one of the best producers. Very mellow, slightly friable and that fatty but not saturating feel. Very ripe, with a nutty aroma. Simply awesome!
Lots of (full bodied) habanos and pipes (strong balkan blends), Zacapa rum and George T Stagg bourbon (last year's was better).

Thanked: 0I had my "collective" notice two months ago (whatever it's called in english) and been sort of worrying since. And of course, give the recession, I can't ever really relax. But I got my "individual" notice earlier this week and it was an unexpectedly sweet deal. It can take years to find another good job these days, but at least I know I'm safe and supported for at least the first of them. I celebrated, traditionally, by buying (and drinking most of... ;-)) a bottle of Laphroaig. Some might say it's rediculously middle class and whatever but... you know... I don't care :-). After all these years and quite a few bottles, I still, occasionally, love that taste of....hmmm... summer on the west coast. Pure tar on my tongue. Oh yeah, I do.....

Drove home from Philly today (8 hour drive). I had a Man O’ War Double Corona (good cigar, medium body with a nice toasted bread flavor, Habano Ecuador wrapper stuffed with Nicaraguan long leaf) and a Nestor Reserve Torpedo.
