Whiskey

I'm a sucker for the Islay's. I like the peaty, smoky flavor. You open a bottle and it smells like a campfire... I drink Lagavulin 16, but also like the Glenlivit 12yr.
I never met a Scotch I didn't like....Anyone try Bunnahabhain? It's on my list.....

At any given time, I have 3-to-5 whiskies open in the rotation. Currently open are three singles and a bourbon: Laphroaig 10, Ardbeg 10, The Balvenie 12 Doublewood, and Eagle Rare. The Islay peat monsters are, far and away, my favorites but I love a good bourbon.

The best bourbon I've had was just last night. My dad just flew in for a visit yesterday, so we went to dinner where I had a special treat: Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve, 20 years old. First time I've seen it in town. First time I've had it. Very, very, very nice.

Scotch - My favorite is Glenkinchie, the honey and vanilla notes are just right for relaxing. This one with a splash of water only.

For my Manhattan's though, only Irish whiskey will do, generally Jameson's, it blends well with the vermouth and isn't as overwhelmingly sweet like bourbon. And I drink my Manhattan's on the rocks, tradition be damned!

I have tried several different Bruichladdich scotches the XVII being one of my favourites the lighter ones being the 10, 12 year olds the seem to become more flavoursome with age, definately one of the lighter Islay malts.
I generally prefer highland and speyside malts.
Have been to the whisky shop in the The Bray ? :)

The Lagavulin is a bit peatier than the Glenlivit IMHO. I really am enjoying the Glenfiddich 21. Try it, it is not as expensive as you would think for a 21YO,but the taste is just wonderful.

OK, no work tomorrow so I am off to the land of Scotch!! Tonight will be a wee bit of Oban I think. :)

I actually got an "A" in Chemistry back in high school for making a still and producing grain alcohol or "moonshine". Teacher thought it was cool, the boys dean did not.

Bulliet bourbon on the "cheap". Great bourbon for a low price. My all-time fav is the unparalleled Pappy Van Winkles 20 year, only I can't seem to find it these days in my town. The cat must be out of the bag.

The Bray no, but we have a great whisky shop in Lincoln. Hard to walk past. I've been invited to a couple of tastings, but unable to make them.
