Whiskey
OK- just about every other major liquor type has been discussed here at some length, but as Red said in the Tequila forum- it's all about Bourbon/Scotch for this gent.
My personal faves, and I'll admit (to some people's horror) that I enjoy em on the rocks with a splash of water:
Bourbon: Woodford Reserve- not too expensive, but well worth the extra cash over supermarket brands.
Early Times- just because it's what Grandpa used to take backpacking. Awesome in a tin cup with instant coffee at 10,000 ft with a view.
Scotch: Laphroaig 15 - that stuff is so damned peaty it tastes like smoking a pipe
What say ye, gents?

I like Talisker, reminds me of spicy tanned leather with water, and like flowers over ice.
I never tried the Laphroaig 15...yet. Your "peaty" comment has made me thirsty though.
As far as bourbons go, I still swear by the Evan Williams small batch stuff or Buffalo Trace. Regardless of their cost.

Thanked: 278Ah yes, Jack Daniels and Jim Beam are good friends. But the Laphroaig makes a welcome change.
No more motivational posters for a while I promise.

I'm a huge whiskey/bourbon fan. My favorites are the Irish Whiskey's. Here are my favorite Irish:
Red Breast
Powers
Jameson
Finian's
American:
Booker's
Bakers
Four Roses (just the cheap ones. Not a big fan of their small batch stuff)
Buffalo Trace
Bulliet
(that's a lot of B's. Never noticed. I guess I haven't made it out of the B's yet)
Hell, I'm going to pour me a glass now.
Also, +1 on the rocks for me. No shame in that.

I can enjoy a good Scotch, but basically when it comes to whiskey I'm all for bourbon. Another great Knob Creek fan. Though I also like Early Times, and Booker ... well, Booker is a fierce bourbon, but a good one.
A couple of weeks ago I noticed the local Binny's had Sazerac rye on sale. I've probably missed the sale but might give it a try anyway--I don't think I've ever tasted rye, and it might be a good codgerly alternative in my Manhattan sometimes.

let's just say I almost never have to buy a bottle of jack, I get it for birthdays, Christmas, heck, I've gotten it as payment for work!! the Jack and coke is my go to for those long nights where you know you've got 6-10 hours ahead of you.
Other than Jack and sometimes crown, I drink my whiskey/bourbon on the rocks, usually with water, a small splash to big splash depending on the quality. Laphroig a tiny splash, or let sit on the rocks a few minutes. EXCELLENT with a cigar, or a pipe.
When I'm out depending on what they have on the shelf I'll order knob creek, makers mark, bulleit. At home I've had the woodford reserve, 1792 ridgemont, gentleman jack, wild turkey, johny walker and other blended and young (affordable) single malts. The scotch normally is if I'm expecting my grandma to come over. she drinks the cheap scoresby usually but doesn't mind a bit better once in a while
some of the ones here I haven't tried but will now. the only ones I stock regular are Jack, gentleman jack, and wild turkey.
I [I]really[I] want to try Bernheim wheat whisky. bevmo has it online, but 50 bucks!!! ouch

Only single malt you must drink, my young Padawan... me favourite: Oban and Lagavulin (THE SIX CLASSIC MALTS OF SCOTLAND from United Distillers review by AWA.)
