I carry a XD Tactical in .45 as a duty sidearm and loving every minute of it. I don't believe you can go wrong with any XD.
I only had one complaint at the time of purchase. There were no duty holsters at the time and so I had to live with my Glock for a little longer, but thats ok.

Thanked: 6I carry concealed a lot... and I currently carry a XD (M) .45 ACP with good ol' Hydra-Shok rounds... my backup for my Springfield (yes, I often carry two guns...) is a Taurus PT140 Pro Millenium .40cal, which also loads Hydra-Shoks.
XD is a bad ass pistol, and you cant go wrong for the money. Very reliable.

Thanked: 0I've been shooting for years and shoot USPSA evens locally. I've shot singlestack (1911), Limited 10 with my Springfield 1911, Production with my Glock 17 and 35 as well as a Sig 2340 I used to have and even shot Limited division with my G35 (all gussied up, of course) for a year.
That being said, I've shot the XD's and like 'em. They're fine weapons. I'm sure I'll add one to the safe eventually but I think I'd like to add an M&P and a CZ75 sa to the party first.
For those that don't like the Glock grip angle, I used to say the exact same thing. But I tell you this, it's a software issue, not a hardware issue.
I can pick up my Springfield 1911, either Glock or my CCW piece, a Kahr PM9 and perform equally well on the target range with them. it's because I get out and shoot on a regular basis. I've taken defensive pistol classes and shot multiple competitions and just plain practiced with both and now angles don't bother me. My brain kicks in and looks for the dots. You can tell wich gun is in your hand before you ever see it. Your brain just knows.
I say this to encourage anyone out there to pick up a Glock and give it a try. I've never had a more reliable sidearm. I'm not a coolaid drinker and know they aren't perfect but they run every stinkin' time.

Thanked: 6While I am not a huge proponent (thats a word, right? ) for Glock, they do make a fine gun...
I would tell you that a glock and standard XD would be very close in performance, weight, and comfort for concealment...
HOWEVER...
The XD(M) is a phenomenal firearm. It has all match grade components, and is a true workhorse. You will see tighter groups, less re-coil, and be able to use this weapon tactically or in self defense much better than say a glock...
That and...Ive put thousands of rounds through both Beretta 9mm's...Glocks and XDs..and I will say this: The XD is the only one that hasnt jammed on me.
Food for thought!

I have one of these. It is absolutely awesome, more than saving money it will help to slow yourself down and its particularly helpful if you have a flinching problem.
I've been competing with 1911 style pistols for years I personally cant come around to double action style shooting it just doesn't feel right to me and since most polymer guns are double action it rarely happens that I ever shoot them.
For dependability you can never go wrong with a revolver. I will try to get some pics up of the one that I have been reworking for P.P.C. competition shooting.
As far as some of the best factory pistols made imo. STI International, Inc.

This is pretty much EXACTLY what I heard from Tom Gresham on Guntalk radio. A caller asked what would be the best choice between a Glock and an XD. Tom said it would be a toss up, try both out, blah blah....then the guy specified that he was talking about the XD(M). Tom said basically that's a WHOLE different ballgame and he'd recommend the XD(M) over the glock any day.
This is what got me interested in the XD(M)....basically Tom said it was just as reliable as a glock, with more features, better design and lower pricetag.
Anyway, coming from Tom Gresham, that's a huge endorsement!

Keep in mind when Springfield says that the gun has match grade components that does not really mean anything besides the fact that they are trying to sell you a gun. I was recently employed at a gun store for nearly 2 years, we had a range in our store and had many rental guns. I can say having fired multiple polymer handguns often in the same night that the Springfield XD AND XD/M are the HARDEST recoiling polymers out there. I have also seen every gun o jam, I haven't had a Glock jam on me personally but I have seen it , they only jam if you limp wrist. The polygonal rifling in the glock barrel lasts FOREVER, there is nothing to wear down! Also there is nothing I hate more than the safety on the back of that XD, if your going to put one there it needs to be BIGGER! The XD's magazines are too fragile. I have seen too many people trying to return them because they damaged the feed lips dropping them and etc.
Have you looked at CZ?
