Springfield XD(M) Pistols
Curious if anybody here has fired the new Springfield XD(M) .40 cal or 9mm pistols and what you think. I'm more of a 1911 guy myself and currently own a Para P12 .45, but have been looking at some polymer frame pistols ala the original XD .45 and HK USP compact .45....not a huge glock fan....their grip and ergonomics are terrible for me.
Anyway, I've heard great things about the XDM and can't wait for a .45 version to be released. Any input is appreciated!

Thanked: 0Springfield XD
The weapon is a shooter, any way you put it. The only problem I had with the company was its factory support. You just won't beat Smith and Wesson for that. Take a look at the M and P .45 with a lifetime warranty. Either way good luck and enjoy.

Thanked: 102XD Pistol
I have a XD .45 acp tactical model with 5 inch barrel.
Fantastic pistol. It works, Is accurate, fits my hand, good trigger, good sights.
I like the large magazine capacity without the butt of the gun being too large.
I also like the metal magazines, rather than plastic which somethimes do not fall out easily due to swelling..
I have heard rumors of an XD M in .45 ACP. If it is an improvement over the regular XD it will be some pistol.
Also check out the new Vitor coming soon. Revival of the old Bren X pistol.

A buddy of mine has the XDM 9mm and I've had some trigger time with it.
It's a very nice gun and a blast to shoot. It has great accuracy, a nice trigger, and it feels good in my hand.
I'm more of a 1911 guy, but wow, this gun is awesome. If they make it in .45 acp I might have to buy one.
You get a lot for your money with this gun.

Thanked: 995The most important aspect of this equation is the GGI (the ground-to-grip interface). If you can make it work to your liking, you will like it.
I'm old enough to remember all the old shooters I knew bitching about the switch that some companies made to aluminium frames and how unreliable they would be, blah blah blah. Then the companies made the transition to polymers and it all started over again. Basically SSDD.
I favor the Sigs in aluminium, with steel working parts, and would prefer all steel. Having all that mass out there does nice things during the dynamics of the shoot, but it's hard to hold up in the air, or wear on your belt all day. I can't argue with that.
There are pix on the net of various pieces coming apart during firing that have polymer frames. That would be worth studying for anyone buying. You should know your piece inside and out anyhow including other's experiences.
I have good things to say about Springfield, especially their customer service, but YMMV.
One of the best things about the 1911, is that it was designed by a blacksmith and no one has really improved the system since. Tweaked, twitched, and fiddled but not all that much better.“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power.” R.G.Ingersoll

I am thinking that since ammo is so expensive that people that shoot should probably reload there own shells.
It would be cheaper. I don't own a pistol yet but I have been researching for years.

Thanked: 1I have an XD 9 and I love it. it's been my primary carry weapon since I got it, don't leave home with out it.
I haven't had to deal with Springfield service department so i have no opinion as far as that concerned.
I was never a big fan Springfield's semi-auto pistols, till the XD's came out... there revolvers are ok i guess.
I'm a big Taurus fan, granted some of there early guns weren't so great but the company has came a long way since then. Say what you will about Taurus but name another gun company( that's not a custom smith) that is so confident in the quality of there firearms to offer a no questions asked life time of the company warranty on all there firearms? and there 1911 in just phenomenal.
