Default What music do you find most relaxing?

    Otto,

Ah yes, Anne-Sophie Mutter. She is wonderful in everything she plays. I've heard her in that Beethoven violin concerto. It's a delicious performance. Of course, the Beethoven is a magnificent piece of music.

"Beethoven's music is music about music," said Freiedrich Nietzsche.

    Regards,

    Obie

Hmm, the upbeat tempo might not be very relaxing, but I can really dream off (or slip away, I guess) with this song, sometimes together with my guitar:

    Pat Metheny - Slip Away

I'm a really big fan of Pat Metheny

+1, I've yet to hear anything she's done that I didn't truly enjoy. I regret never having seen her in concert, though I do have a couple of DVDs of performances.

I love me some trip-hop for relaxation. Here's a great example of the genre, and one of my favorite tunes of all time

    Default What music . . . ?

    Gentlemen,

That probably is a Stradivari. Most of these super duper stars play the magnificent instruments. A number of these instruments are still around. Let me think — I've seen pictures of some of these great fiddles:

    The Stradivari "Marquis Doria," from1685.
The Guarneri del Gesu's The "Fountaine," from 1738.
Guarneri's violin made around 1700 known as The "Paganini."
Guadagnini's The "Kaufman," made about 1772.
Matteo Gofriller's, from 1727, and known as The "Holzrichter."
I've actually touched the Stradvari "Dushkin" a musician I knew had.

These are gorgeous fiddles. Who knows who plays them, or what museum has them? They are something to behold. So, yes, Mutter probably plays some fancy fiddle, and she sounds just fine.

    Regards,

    Obie

indian classical music, such as by the late and great Ali Akbar Kahn.

Ali Akbar Khan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    quite relaxing

Ali passed away unfortunately earlier this summer and was a distinguished music professor at my old alma mater UC Santa Cruz. He and his father before him left a huge legacy of music which is worth checking out.
