Percolator Coffee anyone ?
I've been using a Mellitta pour over with beans ground in a Zassenhaus hand grinder for years now. I've used electric drip pots and a French press in the past at one time or another. I was reminiscing the other day on the percolators we used to use years ago and decided I want to find a vintage one and try that again. Anyone use a percolator out there ? I know that it will make coffee purists cringe but I just want to do a pot once in awhile for old times sake .... and I may beven like it better than the drip... been so long I don't remeber.

You're killing me with this coffee talk. I quit coffee/caffeine about two months ago and have been able to stay away from it.
Then my wife who's glad I quit reads me an article about how coffee drinkers are supposed to have a 40% lower risk of heart disease and a much lower risk of kidney stones.
Prior to quitting I had been eyeing some percolator coffee makers (stovetop with the glass bubble on top) in Lehmans catalog.
I had the Bodum stovetop vacuum pot and it worked twice before it crapped out for no apparent reason. My experience with Bodum customer service in trying to troubleshoot let alone exchange one was downright awful, maddening and unacceptable. The thing still sits on a shelf in my basement. The two times it worked, the coffee through it was awesome.
Prior to quitting I was a 100% french press man.

I have a modern percolator; it's made of steel by Farberware and exceptionally durable...worth every penny...and I love the sound of coffee percolating in the morning! STEW THEM BEANS!

Wow, you guys amaze me. I figured everyone would be a coffee snob and percolators would be passe. Now the question becomes stovetop or electric ? I was leaning toward a stainless stovetop. I figure it would be a purer taste ?

Yes there are many percolaters still on the market and I'm not going to be judgemental here however I'll just say that the number one reason for terrible tasting coffee is having the water go through the grounds again and again. That's exactly what the percolator does very well.
Does anyone know if percolators were ever used outside of the U.S?No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I remember my parents having one. In fact, I just checked and they're still available over here.

I know that yet... I remember as a kid my Mom using one and then I thought about all the 12 step group meetings I went to ..... for more than 10 years damn near every night. I drank gallons of coffee out of those large percolators that make like hundreds of cups and I liked it well enough. I'm going to give it a try and do it as a once in awhile type of thing.
