Thank you for that useless comment. You do realise however that most people don't practise martial arts because they want to hurt or even defend someone?
Most people do martial arts...simply because they like it. (At least that's why I practise Judo. Also, it's good for balance and such and I like it because of that)
There have been plenty of debates on the effectiveness of martial arts v.s. guns. This is NOT one of them I think.

My comments were intended as a joke.
Though it must be said that marksmanship with a weapon, whether it be a bow or a firearm, is most definitely a martial art.
However, whilst I would agree that the vast majority of martial artists don't intend to be agressive, there are growing numbers now that will put their martial arts training to bad use.'Living the dream, one nightmare at a time'

This might be true. And no-one seemed to have contradicted you on that.

Thanked: 3if you really want something good and you live on long Island or In NY city try Krav Maga and tell them spencer sent you. its a lot better than some of the other arts but dont take it from any USA krav associtation. because its been watered down. oh and get in shape a little before you try it.is a lot better if you dont have to go hand to hand.

I spent a few years with karate and about 1 with tai chi (kung fu's zen brother). Tai chi was good for relaxing and what not, but I had a much better time when we were able to practice the moves in practical applications.

I tried reading all the posts but didnt have time. So if Im repeating someones post I apologize. Aikidio is what I practice and I'm probably a little bias but it is a great art. It is based on a lot of the old samurai tradition. It is one of the most peaceful arts due to the fact there are no attacks it is based on using your oppenents energy against them. I cant speak enough about it but as with anything its strictly preference and everyone is different.
