Full contact can indeed bring an extra dimension to the learning experience.
However, the price for that is more than I am willing to pay.

I don't fight competition and I am a white middle class male, living and working in a good neighborhood. The odds of me getting seriously injured during full contact are much higher than the chances of ever benefiting from the experience it brings.

I think it's good to spar without pushing full force. But hits to the face ( even when not going full force) need to be dodged, defended against etc. In general when in a fight (remembering from my teens) the first thing a guy will hit is the face. If you can't stop them or look at them while hitting them you're going to get knocked the **** out.

A good plan is don't be where the attacker is striking

    LOL. That's a great plan.

Looks like sukui-nage from Judo, performed with a bit of malicious intent.

Look at the way he hands her his back thinking "oh, I have her in a headlock, I'm safe" she bases down, "squats" his weight and brings him up and over. I wonder if he walked away from that. I train with a guy who was a wrestler and a Judo player. Standing up, I can control him, I am 6 inches taller and probably 25 pounds heavier. Anytime he gets inside, though, the fight is his. If I use anti-wresting takedown defense (mine is quite weak, admittedly) his Judo almost always puts me on the ground in a bad position, where he uses both Judo and wrestling to make my day worse. I don't think I've ever stood back up if he didn't let me, and I KNOW I've never advanced position on the ground if he didn't want me to. If I'm lucky, I'll avoid one or two of his submission attempts. If I had the time to train more, I would love to incorporate Judo.
