I haven't eaten any in many years but when I did I could OD on Ben & Jerry's Wavy Gravy.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 335There is only one flavor for ice cream and that is vanilla. If you need something else to augment that divinely wonderful flavor, put it on top. Something like strawberries, or raspberries, or blueberries, or perhaps a little chocolate drool will do, but on top - not in.

I love ice cream. I tend to prefer kinds with lots of "stuff" in it. My all time favorite was "midnight cookies and cream" from Hagen Daz, but, afaik, it was discontinued while I was still a little kid (probably around 15 years ago). I'm a big fan of Ben & Jerries - some of my favorites are Coffee Heath Bar Crunch, Half Baked, Dublin Mudslide, and Phish Food.
At Wegmans, they have been running deals on Turkey Hill and Edy's recently, so I've been getting those a lot. Turkey Hill ice cream is, imo, quite good, but they don't carry great flavors here. The two Yankee's flavors are good, but both are light ice cream... Wegmans ice cream isn't bad either; my girlfriend got me into Chocolate Nutty Cone.

Thanked: 369I like making my own home made ice cream. Don't do it enough though. At one time I was very tempted to invest in this type of "old-tyme" ice cream vendor business set up:

Those are two 20 qt white mountain ice cream churns attached to that put-put engine.
Seemed like a very cool idea. Some day, maybe...Last edited by honedright; 02-17-2010 at 04:57 AM.

Unlike your story, I know exactly where to find my favorite ice cream, only that its a 9 hour plane ride away in Italy. Frutti di Bosco gelato, mmmm... come to think of it most all of the truly Italian gelatos do it for me, but our American imitations just put me into despair.

Usually a good vanilla flavour does it for me. My favorite treat when I'm in a city that has a store is either a big cone or a milkshake or chocolate by these guys

Ice Cream
My dear Mark (JMS):
What a lovely story, as are many remembrances of youth. Yours is especially sweet, because it is about lemon chiffon ice cream served with a cup of serendipity — making a pleasant discovery by accident.
I am reminded of what the early Spanish poet Martial (Marcus Valerius Martialis, 38-104 A.D.) said in one of his 12 books of Epigrams. He said: "To be able to enjoy one's past life is to live twice."
Yesterday you did, 35 years later, with lemon chiffon ice cream made by your lovely wife. From here on, you not only will carry the old memory of this chilled delight, you will also pair it with the new.
After all, as Oscar Wild said: "Memory is the diary that we carry about with us."
Thanks for sharing the story.
Regards,
