back when i was alot younger in the mid 70's i had a 66 chevelle SS /327/4speed had lots of fun with that, then my dad came home with a 454 big block and a turbo 400 tranny and i stuffed it in a 57 Chevy station wagon with 2 holley 600's and a 4.56 rear end,and back in 1979 i was running 12.60 in the 1/4 mile, which was pretty good for a street car, because at that time the nitro funny cars were just breaking the 200 mph barrier!! now a days they are over 300!! boy those were fun days, thanks for posting this thread!!

12.60 in 1979 was great numbers for a street car. You hear all kinds of non-sense from "back-in-the-day" hotrodders who never spent a minute near a track.
Technology had brought us to the point where I take my Convertible 2007 Corvette to the track and race my friends with 440 six pack and Hemi cars. They are amazed that without doing burnouts or any additional work the car will run low 12s (12.2-12-4) depending how good I am at the launch.“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”

Thanked: 234I would say I am. I've been riding for nearly 4 years since I was 16 and driving for about 18 months.
Had bikes and three cars. My car has just been written off, someone shunted me, but my bike is a Yammy TRX850. My hire car from my insurance company is what you would call a Mazda Miata, it's surprisingly good fun. Especially in the wet. Don't think I'll have it much longer though.
