Hi fella's, what are you using to humidify your humidors? I am using a Puck in a small humi to good affect. I'm thinking of trying Boveda packs in another humi. Are they any good?
Boveda's are great - bit expensive - but great. I use Heartfelt beads. I really couldn't be happier, short of a system that would never need maintaining :).
I use too many beads really, but I am a stable environment whore lol. I keep manually moistened beads on the bottom of my humi's - ie I only spritz the beads that I keep on the bottom of my humi. And beads up top. The beads up top soak up any excess as the humidity travels up. It helps over-saturating the beads too - which is a real pain.
Moreover, I keep my humis inside a chest whos bottom is lined with 8lbs of Exqusicat kitty litter lol. So the environment outside my humi's is slightly more humid than inside. It's a system I have sort of mastered. It works for me. But it's overkill lol.
I use Xikar gell jars and Xikar glycol liquid. It has done wonderfully for several years in my humidor. There are many good options, this is just my preferred way. I have no knowledge of Boveda, sorry I can't comment specifically to that.

Humidor is simply the integrated block filled with propylene glycol, distilled water mix

i'm using this, works pretty good.
Hello bud,
I agree, i'm toying with getting a large 150 capacity humi. I was shocked when looking into the Boveda system, they recommend one 60g pack per 25 cigar capacity of your humi. That equates to 6 packs in a 150 stick humi...!
I'll look into the Heartfelt beads mate.
Thank's for your help guys.
Keeping at stable environment is an effn PITA where I am.
I think I'm going to take a page out of Earcutter's manual and put my humis in a closed case.
It really works for me Yardie. I use a wooden chest because I want everything to "breath" as most of the sticks I have in the chest will be aged (I just can't smoke enough to keep them less than a year or two lol). Of course, it's hell on the chest - the lid is warping every which way with the humidity... but whatever lol.
The kitty litter works like a charm (keeps it at the high 60's to 70 RH range) - you just have to make sure you have the right one. I use this stuff - unscented of course.

I know some place their humis into tupperware - and that works, but note (in case you didn't know) that if you do place your humi's into a plastic container that is a completely sealed environment, you would want to make sure to open it now and again to let some fresh air into it.
Like I say - it works for me. As it stands now, the humis I have in my chest need to be "tended" too about 1/3 of the time I need to tend to my outside humi needs. Moreover the other thing about the wooden chest that I think makes a difference is that the temperature fluctuations that normally occur in the fall, were a non-issue for my chest kept humis this year. I can never figure out why that happens when my house is kept at 70 all year round??
Man... bad day on the cigar front!! The weather is rather nice here in N/E Kansas today. Nice enough to head out for a cigar - WOOT! Until...
Effort # 1. A couple of years ago Cu-Avana Intenso Punisher's were getting some pretty good reviews. So one drunken night, being genuinely intrigued - I bought a 5er.
You can see a review here - probably one of the reviews I read that very night - if you are inclined: Cu-Avana Intenso Punisher - PVNISHER - Cigar Reviews | Beer Pairings | Casas Fumando
When I sobered up - I received shipment and threw them into the depths of my humi. I don't know what I was thinking - I hate flavored cigars lol. They dip the tip in a red pepper solution to add zing/kick.
Well - I lit up today because... well, because I had to smoke one one day. It was awful! LOL - it was really awful, and worse yet, that tip with a red pepper solution to add kick, was terrible. Oh well. I couldn't finish it. That's rare :).

Effort # 2. So I figured a couple hours later, being the kids were playing so well together, to give something else a try. I dug through the humi and noted a cigar whose band looked like it had been water-logged. Somehow the stick get wet. How? I don't know - but the band looked like it has swam in water at some point!!
Anyway it was a 601 La Bomba - love them. So I figured I would spark it up - the stick looked like it had dried up and was ready to smoke. Had to be a year old at least.
As soon as I lit it, it tunneled like a champ! The wrapper and binder were clearly way more damp than the filler... man what a bad buzz!! I had to continually touch it up. Not only did it burn poorly - it tasted wrong. I know this cigar well - so take my word for it when I say wrong lol. I couldn't finish it either.
Well - that's been my day... can't win em all I guess.
that really sucks. I had a undercrown tunnel on me the other day too. luckily I was able to fix it with a few touch ups. I think I might have to get a new humi. I don't think that thing is holding in the humidity correctly. it was a cheap start humi I got on sale from CI. I think its time to move up to a 125 ct humi. anyone have good recommendations? I want to get a quality one this time.

Had a great smoke today. A nice Davidoff Nicaraguan Robusto.
Pretty sure you have all seen this pepper bomb before. Great dog-walking gar. :)

Either way, this one smoked like a champ.
I had a RyJ no.2 last night and I'm looking forward to a Padron 1964 Anniversary tonight.
Oh man, that 1964 is a real pleasure to smoke. I'm so peanut butter and jelly of you right now.
Thanks man! I really enjoyed it and I think I'll be getting a few more! The draw was easier than I usually like, but details details!
Always enjoy this stick. Slow and cool burning, massive smoke output, and a flavor profile I really enjoy.

Did I mention slow burning? This corona was lit 45 min ago, and I am still a half inch from the band :).
I know those Antaņo Corojos are a very good stick...I'm just not a fan of them.
They are pretty much loaded with vitamin "N" - if you aren't a fan of vitamin N, this is NOT the stick for you. I get that!
Matter a fact, as much as I like this stick - I have been jonesing for another stick since I smoked it yesterday. I am sure it's the Nicotine. Warning Will Robinson - Warning!!
I have loved just about every Illusione cigar I have ever smoked. The 888 is a go to when I am at a cigar lounge. So it should come as no surprise that when I saw they sold a stick called the -68 - a number that's dear to me, I bought a box untested.
I got to tell you, my heart dropped after the first one. These things for a 4 x 44 were not cheap. I hoped that a little rest might help.
It's been over a year now I think - the band is loose on the stick - still don't like it much :(.

Maybe next year?
I too am a cigar afficianado. I have been smoking them for almost 20 years < hand rolled that is. Prior in my youth we smoked whatever we could get.......Swisher's; Backwoods; or even a El Tampa!
I prefer a medium body and some of my favorites are Puros Indios across the board and I have a weird like for Drew Estates Acid line especially the Kuba Kuba. Call me crazy on liking a Acid but it is my sinful like!
Montecristo Open Junior this evening. Lovely cigar and quick enough for when the weather's this lousy.
Letting the work week fade into obscurity... Nom, nom.

Smoked a Rocky Patel 1990 petit belicoso this afternoon. Incredibly good cigar for the money!
Hey guys - I have used a Moleskine to review my cigars for some time. But the thing with the Moleskine is, I end up writing novels. I really don't need/want that anymore so I just bought 5 of these:
Attachment 192284Attachment 192285
I'll let you know how they work out for me - looks good so far. Short, sweet and pocketable! :)
I saw a very similar book at the tobacconist last visit
They look like a great idea.
I've been keeping a note in my iPhone
Works but gets to be really long :)
I've gotta get back to my cigar guy and get some more of those torpedos :)
Mike
There's just something about a "hard copy" with the actual band that I find a little romantic. I am going to include one sentence per review that will be for my kids eyes just in case they find em when I am dead and gone - eg. Today My daughter helped my son - love seeing the love between them... Bla bla - this might just add that little bit more for them - cuz it's always about them lol. :).
Undercrown (6X50) and two and a half hours of rich smoke. The amount of smoke coming off the foot is the most I've ever seen.
