I cannot say how it has morphed, as I simply cannot accurately remember how these blends tasted fresh 15 years ago when I smoked the stuff. I can compare the current dunhill production to the Murrays however. To put it simply, the Murray's stuff is fuller, stronger and the Latakia more pungent. Is this difference due to aging, I think not. Although I have found that aging the new production dunhill does tend to mellow out the blend.
Having said this, there is nothing "Mild" about this mixture. The Syrian latakia is subtle, with pronounced Orientals and there is also quite a nicotine punch. Very enjoyable indeed.

5 years ago, I purchased 3-100gr tins of this. Due to its less than stellar packaging, all 3 went straight into mason jars. I remember pulling off a bowls worth, to sample and being unimpressed. At that time, I was only into the pipe experience for about a year. I'd like to think my taste buds and matured since.
I cracked open a jar tonight, and am now on my 2nd bowl. This is some very interesting tobacco. Extremely sweet on the front end, I'll assume the reds are shining here. Very spicy on the back end. Must be from the Dark Fired. While most dark fired I love, JKP, 5 O'clock Shadow, Triple Play, exhausted Rooster are very full bodied, this one is is medium. Yet it's extremely satisfying.
The 8"belt style flakes held up beautifully in the jar over the 5 yrs. There is no visible sugar crystal formation present, possibly due to the extremely low moisture content of this flake. I pulled off a 2 1/2" piece, folded it in half, rolled it up length wise, and simply dropped it into the Nording. After the initial char, it stayed lit to the bottom of the bowl. A rarity for me. It did smoke fast.
The 2nd bowl has just finished, and I'm thinking of a 3rd. I do like it. Maybe not a daily smoke, but definitely a treat!Last edited by RJD; 05-27-2015 at 03:21 AM.

I've decided to try my hand at blending again, and figured yall might be able to lend a hand. I'm thinking of a nice Frankenstein blend with a burley base. So far I'm planning on:
40% -Old Joe Kratz for a good stout base
20% -Peterson 3p for a good vitamin N kick
10% -Pembroke for some sweet latakia
10% -Squadron Leader for a healthy smokiness
10% -Mississippi Mud for the perique spice
10% -Virginia though I havn't figured out what yet
Any suggestions?
