Thanked: 1263Been lurking through this thread for quite some time and I must say you gentlemen have some beautiful pipes floating around.
Thought I'd finally join and share my morning smoke of a blend from a local shop that they call "Two Bowl Problem" in my newly acquired Winslow

That Winslow's an awesome shape...what would you call it a "rusticated squashed tomato?" She looks like a great smoker.
Anyway, love it.

Thanked: 1can anyone tell me how they light their pipe? Im having trouble, basically I fill the bowl to the rim, then tamper down half way, light with a match, drawing slightly to get the flame fully into the bowl, then I pop a bit more tobacco in and repeat, but it just keeps going out, like literally after 3-4 puffs its gone completely

Thanked: 45You might be packing it too tight. When you fill the bowl to the rim, instead of tamping it down half way, use a pipe cleaner. Grasp one end of the pipe cleaner, and gently poke the tobac down in the bowl w/the other end. If you are bending the cleaner, you are pushing to hard. After you do that, the pipe may be 1/2-2/3 full. Drop some more on top, and very-very lightly tamp it. Do your false light, charring the whole surface. When it goes out, flatten the surface with the tamp. No pressure, just flatten whats puffed up from the false light. Relight, get the whole surface lit. Lightly tamp again. When you tamp, you should only be compressing the burnt ash that has puffed up. Try this, it may work for you. After a few time, you will get the feel for the tabac you are using. Once you get a feel for your tobacco types, you wont need to use the pipe cleaner to tamp any more. It will become second nature. Good luck.

To add to RJD's advice you may need to let your Tobacco dry out a bit before packing. Some more than others and takes a little bit of trial and error to get the time right. I have some Aromatics that need to sit out 40 minutes or so or they are hard to light and are like soup in the bottom of the bowl when smoking

Good afternoon, ladies and gents. Today I'm picking up my pipe for the first time this year. I'm smoking my Erik Nording freehand along with some Dunhill Royal Yacht. This is my first Dunhill blend.
