Default Questions for my brothers of the briar

Like Gunner, I too love the shape of his new Stanwell and covet one. What is the shape called? A half bent egg? A scoop? Are the Danes the only people that make this shape? Where would you suggest I look for one?

    All help would be appreciated.

Hey thanks Old school. I'm a real sucker when it comes to silverbands on a pipe and of course a silver spigot is wonderful if expensive!

Hey that new Stanwell is called a Danish Scoop. It's one of my favorite shapes:-)

Smoking pipes.com has a great selection and the best place to find that shape or close to it. Oh by the way the Germans make that shape also. Some are pretty high priced but they do have reasonable ones also.

    Thanks Gunner,

I found it! Only $1,200! I think I'll order 2. Ah well....champagne taste, beer budget. I'd have to go a couple of years without buying a new razor. Not happening. S. Bang bent egg. Yeah, it's Danish.

P.S. Don't stop buying pipes! I'm living vicariously through your purchases and posts.

Yea there are some big time prices from those guys who only make 200 pipes a year or so.
That one I had on my post was $250 and is pretty close to the shape we like. Really though this pipe company puts out a new newsletter twice a week with new pipes and plenty of the same general shape as the scoop. Mine was only $47.50!
I promise you they will have another similar soon:-)

LOL I won't stop I have a couple more coming next week:-)

Those pipes in #742 and #743 have really fine grains. Real masterpieces.

Viprati makes a wonderful pipe. Well made a consistent draw and engineering is second to none. A few years ago before they became so popular you could get a great straight grain equal to any Castello for about half the price. Now they are pretty high priced as well but they are well worth it!
They have a lower priced group as well that run less than $100.
